Peace
I made them because no one ever made a how to play the ztar video. There are plentty of ztar videos but as soon someone starts playing tapping on a ztar it's a whole different ballgame. Fortunately much of the ztat "stick" type playing dovetails into YRG tap mode.

So you can hammer-on and pull-off with 'slide' and 'tap' off. That's cool. The YRG settings and so on, are not yet burned into my memory.tapper mike wrote:The only occasion where I can't successfully handle hammer ons and pull offs on the yrg is when an open note is invovled. this is programed in for a reason. Granted some have fall off however the control panel has a setting for hammer velocity.
The ztar has specific settings to where you can turn on or off hammerons and pull offs as well has settings to decay/delay/velocity. Which can come in handy if you used the full poly.
Now that you mention it, i do remember seeing Control Panel setting for 'hammer'. Until now it didn't hit me what that meant.

"slide" is a misnomer on the YRG it should be labeled portamento it's not the same as sliding on a fretted instrument.
try this with an vsti that is designed for portamento like a nice mono synth.
With the yrg set to tap. Tap out a scale but only allow one finger on the fretboard at a time. Then tap out the same scake using hammer ons and slides
Then repeat with the "slide" activated.

So they've pulled the only software that made the YRG useful, and promised to post something in 24 hours, then moved on to a "couple days".
And we still have Inspired's resident fanboy/lapdog on Yahoo groups saying it must be the player, because his is fine. I think I've about had it with these people.
EDIT
They've posted a beta app.
http://inspired.com/yourockguitar/updat ... el_Win.zip
I suppose I should eat my words, but I will do so after trying it. Still have to fire up a VM, but that's okay.
EDIT Again
HA, posted at the same time as Elantric.

A few things.annode wrote:I can say right now that the strings on this thing are less then ideal.MisterAcoustic wrote:Thanks for the info Elantric. I thought that's what I saw, but I went looking for it and couldn't find it.
I hope they release something that works well - I don't need it in 24 hours, because my YRG hasn't shipped yet.
Let me also re-state an earlier request: Can any YRG owner post a flat-picking demo? Just some scales at a reasonable/fast rate? (preferably a video, to be able to tell strike vs response time). All the finger-picking is fine, but it doesn't tell me what I want to know.
It would also be nice at this point to hear a compare/contrast on the right-hand picking response between the YRG, and the yamaha ez-ag.
Thanks All.
Picking is as tricky as pitch to midi systems. There is a 'too close' separation between false string triggers and no string triggers. There is also a quirk with open string triggering after that same string has been released from a fret. It will not-trigger the open string more often then picking a fretted string then going to another fret on that same string.
The faster you pick the sloppier you pick, the more frequent the mis-triggering.
Because the strings are inherently sloppy feeling, this effect get's out of hand fast.
I'll be very happy when this fretted to open string quirk is addressed. I guess they know about it?
Firstly the previously mentioned first note mute.
It needs and open string mute mode separate from the existing one.
The neck on this is less then desirable but I'll see what I can do.MisterAcoustic wrote:Let me also re-state an earlier request: Can any YRG owner post a flat-picking demo? Just some scales at a reasonable/fast rate? (preferably a video, to be able to tell strike vs response time).
Yes a thousand tilmes better then an ez=eg
But I hate figiting blind to find a good velocity curve.
Closed to open and open to cluse pull off's have a worse problem if you pursued that. There would be no way to mute/shut off the sound. It would turn into "Tim Kelly" going on and on and on without being able to stop the note.annode wrote: I'll be very happy when this fretted to open string quirk is addressed. I'm mre concerned with the too small neck strings. and the unintened pull off's hence my remark concerning a no output to open mode.

tapper mike spoke;
For me,since I own the GI-20 system, this get's me there, but what a pain.
Hmmm...right. Wondering now if going to an open string while in string mono mode changes any of this. Would be nice if it did, as for soloing.Closed to open and open to cluse pull off's have a worse problem if you pursued that. There would be no way to mute/shut off the sound

uh.....to see if it works as well as the app that was previously there, but then pulled down? I thought the reason was obvious.annode wrote:No....why?polaris20 wrote:Has anyone tried the newer version of the control panel that was posted today?

haha..No it wasn't obvious the new app would be somehow worse then the last one.polaris20 wrote:uh.....to see if it works as well as the app that was previously there, but then pulled down? I'm about to check it out now. If it's the same, no reason for a review.

Differences with new Control Panel I noticed;
- comes with installer
- Comes with QT now and checks for Visual C++ 2008
- presets settings area now un-greys
- global string sensitivity adjust scale now 1-10 (v.1.0 was -2 - +2 so it appears they doubled the sensitivity adjustment resolution.)
I'm running winXP of-line.
1st time I ran app, preset setting area stayed greyed-out
next time it worked. next time it didn't...

When startiing click the Refresh
Then click the Get preset
This will make the values accessable.
Also I got an "Unknown Command" when trying to select Volume
Running vista 64 here

So does this app work like Midipipe? It lives between your YRG and your recording software, which means the recording software needs a driver to handshake with the app's output, which gets a little dicey. At least it did with Midipipe. A lot semantics and generic easily misconstrued buzz phrases which got into the weeds fast. I solved it with hours of trial and error. And cursing.
