I'm making presets as we speak :hyper:
Doing nothing is only fun when you have something you are supposed to do.

For those of you who own FL Studio you can create files using its Text to Speech plugin, render to wav and then import that into Vital's WT Osc. Yields some interesting results. :)

Teksonik wrote: Sat Nov 21, 2020 12:38 am No I'm saying check the output in a Analyzer like Span. It's interesting. Compare it to the raw saw waves in other synths.
I honestly don't see much of a difference (MSoundFactory, SynthMaster2), that's why I responded the way I did. I thought you were trying to tell me they look the same, so there's no way someone would get a headache from it.

But now I'm curious, what differences do you see?
I see more high frequency content in Vital than for example in Dune 3's saw (or Hive or Sylenth 1). I don't know if that's what's causing your headaches but it's interesting to see.
Thank you so much for posting these images because the made me realize that my go to analyzer (MAnalyzer) only goes to 20kHz. So I loaded SPAN and made a shocking ( :D ) discovery: MSoundfactory and Synthmaster only generate harmonics until around 22kHz while Vital goes all the way to 24kHz.

Since my interface runs at 48kHz that makes sense, but I'm guessing there's something going wrong with the digital-to-analog conversion (I can't afford expensive equipment since I'm poor). When I add a steep low-pass filter at 20kHz to my master channel, vital sounds much better.

I learned something new today, yay.

It is just hitting me. Are you Yuli Yolo (YY, Whywhy)?
I said it a few pages ago just in case you think I am bs'ing you.
But your patches on this are exceptionally outstanding.

Fantastic work. Hope you do more stuff with it.

Held wrote: Fri Nov 20, 2020 10:40 pm I think there's some weird aliasing going on. If I add a low-pass filter, the headache goes away. Most people seem to be unaffected, though. (Edit: Or get defensive about it as you can see below :D )
Check the output of the INIT patch in an Analyzer.
I know. I still get a headache from using it while I don't get it from other synths (except Helm). Matt writes that the oscillators "have a sharp cutoff at Nyquist", which introduces ringing. Other synths probably don't have that sharp a cutoff, and when I add a low-pass filter to Vital, it starts to sound more like my other synths and I don't get a headache from it.

I know that most people don't have that issue, and I'm happy for them, but that doesn't mean it's not a real issue for me. I still like Vital, and I'm going to use it. I'll just have to put an EQ/filter somewhere in the processing chain.
Hi Held. That is interesting. I haven't yet worked with Vital for a few hours in a raw. What you described is a high frequency fatigue. To much hights freqs tires our ears and may decrease productivity. I will investigate that. I hope Matt gives more information about this.

Hi Igro, I already investigated this a bit further and posted my findings in the post linked here. I hope you find it helpful :) viewtopic.php?p=7950333#p7950333
