Unfortunate, yeah, but probably due to circumstances beyond their control. They were being sold, remember?

This is speculation, but they were probably told to down tools until the situation was resolved. Oh, and there was probably a gagging clause as well.

They probably didn't know where their next pay cheque was coming from, if it makes you happy.
While you present an intriguing plotline, cake's release and update schedule is well established. The x3 schedule and leftover x2 bugs is bidness as usual, regardless of paychecks and buyouts.

Silence on the forums for a year, and one update(?) for X2 instead of the usual three spells something odd in my book. And of course they had to release something. It is a business, and if I know coders they were putting in long hours to hit the deadline.
When all else fails, read the instruction manual.

X3 rules. no more weird graphic issues that existed in X2. comping is a dream now. recording this new EP has been so smooth.

I thought about upgrading my X2 but I can't get back on the Cakewalk train any more. Sonar 8.5 was great. 8 was a nightmare. X1 was a nightmare. X2 was constant little things that were broken and destroyed my work flow. All reports are that X3 is stable but then X4 is all too likely to be the next nightmare.
Add that to the fact that Sonar will never have usable notation and I've just had it with that company. I've been with Cakewalk since 1992 and they finally drove me away. I boot up X2 and the now line disappears, I get crashes, tools don't work correctly... I boot up Cubase 7 and it just works. Cubase has has many updates since 7.0. Sonar X2 was abandoned. I need a company that stands behind their product.

According to 'Things I hate about Cubase', the program is full of bugs and disappointments - mostly of ex-Sonar users who have found that the grass ain't greener on the other side.

You must be the exception.

Anyway, us Sonar users are happy to have those Divas over there - let 'em p*ss on Steinberg's lawn instead of here. 8)

According to this thread Sonar is "full of bugs and disappointments". I just go by personal experience.

A really cool thing about the Cubase forum is that it's really about the software. People don't get personally insulted if you have complaints. Whereas over the years the Cakewalk forum has turned into a boys club where anyone with complaints is considered a troll. It's really a shame.

I am not keeping track of Cubase versions, do they release upgrades for earlier versions like 4, 5, 6.5, etc.? I have never seen any such news so just curious, that's all.

Post

The Cakewalk forums are quite a nice place to be, and yes, trolls and the overly self-important twit do get the cold shoulder, which it's such a nice place to be. It's all about helping people, not about providing a platform for the narcissistic to rant.

I suppose Steinberg works for those types, I hear they just ignore them.

Post

The "self-important twits" are forum members such as yourself that use the forum as a social life replacement and don't get that its just software. They get personally insulted whenever they hear negative things about Sonar and take on a high school boys club mentality. There are still some grownups on the forum that can be quite helpful but they are in the minority these days. There used to be quite a lot of actual professional on the Cakewalk forum but these days it's mostly hobbyists. Luckily the Cubase forum is more professional and therefore far more useful.

Post

Really? I'd say that it's 'just software' as well, but twits (such as yourself?) rant about trivialities - usually of their own making. If you ask for help, you'll get it, gladly. If you want to report a bug, no problem. If you want your wounded professional (self-important?) ego stroked - forget it - people are busy helping others.

What you describe as a boys club, well just look around. You can rant and bash all you want here. And don't forget to tell everyone within shouting distance what a 'Professional' you are.

Steingberg's Cubase forum looks deader than a doornail... no wonder nothing's happening there. Not much help there.

Much happier with Cubase here after 15 years with Cakewalk.

SONAR has its advantages...it's a good DAW. The one-screen interface and the channel strip are great for example. But Cubase works much better for me with fewer bugs.

All forums have real help and real twits available to discuss / argue with.

Cubase does not continue to support older versions with bug fixes I don't think. They do good job of debugging before moving on to the next version, but not perfect. Not much different than Cake in this regard imo.

IIRC Steinberg released one patch for C5 after they released C6. Or was it a C6 patch after C7?

If you have to ask, you can't afford the answer

You said: "All reports are that X3 is stable but then X4 is all too likely to be the next nightmare."

I guess since you can't criticize X3, you'll just take jabs at a product that hasn't even been released and won't be for a long time. Nice.
