Aha.. so this is where you guys, along with Peter H are hanging...Taron wrote:Yeah, I notice something a bit frustrating with the Envs (and MSEG, for that matter) on modulation, too. If I want to apply Env1, for example, to OSC POS, even at 0 attack it would always start at value 0 briefly and ramp up the desired starting value rather than starting at the desired starting value. The bad work-around I made was to go at it inverse by having a slow attack, set the position to the desired starting value and then set modulation to be negative. But that's a poor work-around, of course.functionform wrote:
Not the most powerful I have seen... You can modulate the "F1" switch in the filter, the filter MODE?! Then you have Glitch Sequencer and Arp targets. The ability to modulate each and every step! Wow. This might be the most powerful mod matrix I've seen yet.
Yeah, toonertik, we're hanging out with Thorn a bit...toonertik wrote:Aha.. so this is where you guys, along with Peter H are hanging...Taron wrote:Yeah, I notice something a bit frustrating with the Envs (and MSEG, for that matter) on modulation, too. Yes about envelopes and MSEG... For sure they don't seem to be working the way I would expect for precise manipulation/modulation..
I think Functionform mentioned about the kinda reverse action when modding a parameter...
I'm kinda loving what I can do.. I kinda frustrated at lack of accuracy and sync with modding... time will tell
also, in Diversion the MSEG have option to do stepped values and time divisions, why not in Thorn Dmitry?.. also has anyone else seen how the timeline in MSEG can bob about, no matter whether using poly or both mono modes?
Loop off is a strange omission indeed!Taron wrote:And a LOOP OFF option for the MSEG...I haven't found that, yet?! Is there one?

Yes.. it is there in Diversion...functionform wrote:Loop off is a strange omission indeed!Taron wrote:And a LOOP OFF option for the MSEG...I haven't found that, yet?! Is there one?
Like you>> I am not mad.. just a few details could be nailed... It sure is fun to play with.. a bit like my ex_wife... sshhh] Peter:H [ wrote: Yeah, toonertik, we're hanging out with Thorn a bit...
I'm quite a surprised by this little gem. Please don't kill me if I say that fx modulation had been one of the success factors of the dirty ol bastard massive. Fx have become more and more a factor in the center of sound design, not just like "adding reverb on top", but more like "I need LoFi now". I remember using it a lot in my track https://soundcloud.com/p-e-t-e-r-h/red- ... -your-head
Try using LoFi...try increasing it with when the sound fades out...That said: Thorn has it all so easily accessible right at your finger tips. I really think that this is it's success factor. A very good balance of sheer power and accessibility...with a lack of fine control![]()
Anyhow, it's fun to play with this synth. But nevertheless there's things that would be really really good to add:
1.) Have I mentioned it elsewhere but the mseg editor requires a lot of patience or good fine-motor skills...a break out window could be the solution.
2.) Zebralette has these nice loop start and loop end points in the mseg. Would be good to have one shot mseg and/or loop points, too.
3.) Import handling!? Has File handling been mentioned? I guess so. I have prepared a lot of 16 segment exports from the wave editor of my choice. Then I started by naively expecting a import like in wave2zebra which allows to load a number of waves into consecutive slots of the oscilator. In Thorn this is tedious one by one work and even the directory navigation through the file system has to be repeatedly done...Taron has mentioned it, I think, I second that this will be improved.
4.) CPU is really a bit heavier on this than usually with OSC synths. If I go with my usuall 96Khz 32 Bit Float the kraftwerk sketch I have posted earlier is close to the limit of my computer.
Nothing I'm mad about. It's just things to take on the CR list for future releases. Now let's have some fun...
