Go for it, Uncle, I use several T1's and they're brilliant. I do format them with Apple's own HFS+ disk utility though, forgoing their proprietary install procedure.

Are the T1's on sale, or? I don't remember how they came up
I got my first T1 after trying to load Hammersmith from my USB3 drive
and finding it took more than 5 minutes to load one mic set.
With the T1 512GB: 5 seconds.

And that's still over USB3?asksol wrote:Are the T1's on sale, or? I don't remember how they came up

Yeah! This is USB3 (via an USB3 hub) on OS X, and they're super fast. I have two T1's: 1x 250 and 1x 512.
I just transferred 16gb of samples (21,755 files) from my internal SSD, in less than 60 seconds.

The price on the T1 is good bang for buck for SSD. You could buy an EVO series SSD and put it in an enclosure for less, but when I investigated doing this, most people said they had to get a decent USB cable as ones supplied with the enclosures were below par. When I took all that into account, the T1 was not much more expensive.
Can't believe how tiny they are either!

I have just bought a 1.5 TB drive, which is USB 3..On Mac, ho can I discover if it is working at USB3 or USB2 speed?
at the moment I have connected it to an hub, and I suspect the hub is not that fast...

If you have a speed around 30mb/sec i would say it's USB2 because 3 is ten times faster.
Whoever wants music instead of noise, joy instead of pleasure, soul instead of gold, creative work instead of business, passion instead of foolery, finds no home in this trivial world of ours.

thanks, I'll try monitoring disk speed then.murnau wrote:If you have a speed around 30mb/sec i would say it's USB2 because 3 is ten times faster.
another question...
if I buy an external SSD drive, would it matter if it's connected to a USB2 or 3 hub?

yep, an external usb ssd drive is surely usb3-equipped, if you hook it up on a usb2-hub, you only get usb2-speed, the slowest element in the chain is key, so if you want usb3 speed, everything between ssd and Computer must be usb3.autodafe wrote:if I buy an external SSD drive, would it matter if it's connected to a USB2 or 3 hub?
if you use plenty of instruments that stream samples direct from ssd/hd (kontakt, uvi, east west Play,...), then i recommend that you avoid using usb2 technology.

Uncle E, the Samsung T-1 is one of the best investments you'll make for in the box music stuff. The performance speed enhancement is immediate and completely obvious. Plus, as mentioned by the others it really isn't expensive. I have a 500 GB and all my East West and Kontakt stuff loads up (to be completely vague and unspecific) WAAAAY faster. It's truly a godsend, though I have heard internals are even faster.
Ha ha suck it!
