Some would say better than anything else! There are many superb audio editors out there. Some cost hundreds of pounds others are completely free like Audacity. Magix offers quite a variety of products but if CD and DVD burning is important to you give SE a miss as it does not have it. But a similar priced product called Magix Audio Cleaning Lab (£29.99) is superb for audio editing, CD and DVD burning but has no upgrade path like SE.

Am I mistaken or is that Spectral cleaning plugin based on something by algorithmix (costing ££££)?

That looks impressive for the price.

No
I don't care about CD burning.
I'm just looking for a good cheap audio editor.
Audacity does not take vst skins, and need a special folder, SOundforge is too expensive, and Acon acoustica, which looks nice, does not accept vst.
So Samplitude free with KEYS would look like the best deal for me...

otherwise I work with magix music studio wich is a perfect editor. same than sse in the concept. with some great tools like elastic audio.

You know what aMUSED...I think it is! This was a very popular feature in Adobe Audition as well if I am not mistaken.

That Algorithmix version costs £1723!!! :o The results you can get out of them on paper are not that different either!

Magix Audio cleaning lab version

Magix Spectral cleaning plug(scroll down).

Music restoration for experts! MAGIX Spectral Cleaning removes background noise (coughing, whistling or clapping) from a recording without audibly influencing the output signal. Just position the play cursor near the location of the noise and open the editor.

Audible background noises are usually louder than the ambience volume and are generally restricted to a certain frequency spectrum. They are therefore highlighted with colors and can be easily encircled and erased with the mouse. Lost elements of the original frequency spectrum are then added from the ambience sound in order to avoid audible gaps.

Sequioa optional Algorithmix version

Algorithmix Renovator

Applications
Removing unwanted noises like squeaky chairs, coughing, horn of truck passing by, coins and keys falling down, ringing of a mobile phone etc.

Correcting instrumental tracks by the removal of scratches (guitar, violin), wrong notes, rustle of music sheets, breathing and microphone pops of a vocalist, pedals of an organ

Restoring old recordings by the removal of scratches and dropouts cleaning up location records for film and tv from environmental noises.

Audio cleaning labs Spectral plug offers a very similar function for just 30 notes! :D

Also I noticed the Tape Simlation plug is straight from the Analog suite AM/Track and AM/Pulse Sasha's work (formely of Ditigal fishphones). Having used them I think those plugs are fantastic, so even the tape simulation should be of very high quality. Quite a bargain for an audio editor!

Is it my imagination, or does the working of the Samp SE imply that there's no PDC on VST effects?

Ok. Found the thread, went out (still in Vienna), bought the mag, ready to install ;)
Should give me at least a gopod idea of what Samplitude is working like in these days.

Makes you wonder why they're selling the "Keys" May issue allready when it's not even april yet (and that in austria) - in march 2007 you'll be able to buy their "2008 x-mas special" I suppose...

But then, I can't complain. Something to fool around with on the road.

Greg
the SE doesn't support PDC for VST's - u need at least the Classic Version for this
but u can update for 299€ from the SE - that's a saving of 200 € :o

Sterling mastering say they use Sequoia. Samplitude is it's 'little sister'. What is Samplitude SE then?

*In other words, I'd rather use a 1953 monophonic reel-to-reel tape recorder than use Simplitude...*

Just as well I did not order it then :hihi:

Surely the download version will be in English from the Samplitude site though. I would be surprised if it was not. Especially as I have already recommended it to a friend who is looking for a way to save money by getting a cheaper version of Samplitude. 8)

I think all the Magix e versions are in English though,(could be wrong).

I think someone said something about Music Tech possibly offereing this version soon on a cover DVD . It may be better to wait for that. I definitely remember seeing MMM SE on at least 2 magazines last year.

Maybe (but just maybe) the language follows your Windows. Some programs do it that way. I somehow doubt it in this case, but one could ask...

Anyways, as far as calling it "Simplytude", I can't see a reason to do that, assuming the price.
For this price, it's got to be an unbeatable package.
I haven't fooled around with it much yet, but it seems to be very, very powerful.
Sure, some people might feel too much limited because of the rather small maximum number of VSTis, but in case you're mainly into audio recording, this is offering almost anything you'd expect from a highly professional package.

I just thought about projects where I may have used more than 8 VSTis and 48 audio channels. There's not much of them to be sure.

No idea whether I'll like the interface, but the options offered for a mag-ware thing are absolutely stunning, to say the least.
