Second point is, there are not only Amplitubes. What, if I have to wait for every single EQ or Compressor? In an analog console, do you have to wait 15 seconds before you can use it?
second point, you ask a question about a problem that does not exist so it's moot...you don't have to wait for every eq, compressor ect...so I'm not sure how it applies...if that were the case of course there would be more of a reason to complain and I would be right there with everyone...;)

Yes, but if every company starts using dongles that take 15 seconds to load a plug-in, it would become a problem, and more companies are starting to use dongles. I agree that there would be much bigger problems to be upset about.

I don't have AT2, but the 15 seconds would annoy me simply because it is the dongle. If it just took 15 seconds because that is what it took, I would not think twice about it.

but now you're assuming I would make the same point and I would not as I stated...it's not fair to suddenly bring up major "what ifs" and assume you know what I'll say...it's not part of my point at all...if that bigger problem does arise why don't we revisit it then...as it is now the problem doesn't exist so it's pointless.

I'm sorry folks...let me make my point perfectly clear

one pluggin taking 15 seconds one time to load (if it were per take that would be a huge thing) is a trivial complaint and complete nit-picking.

Complaining about dongles is not the same, even if the dongle is to blame for the 15 seconds. I'm sorry nobody can see that point...I really am...but I am happy I'm not that way. I want real solutions for real problems that really cause me headaches, I don't have to go hunting for reasons...I really am sorry that seems to upset so many people...but I think I'm at least keeping it real.

Getting your dongle stuck in your zipper (even for 15 seconds)...now that's a REAL problem!

 then 15 seconds feels like an hour...;)

BTW, I d/l Crystal (free) and unbelievable for a free synth.

Yikes...
no way is that outing yourself. you know what it doesn't matter if you play drums using pickup sticks or fart notes into your mic. if you get off on it, and you like the results, f**k it! we spend too much time worried about what others think of us. life is too short.

especially when in a place like kvr, where so much diversity is everywhere and people with very strong opinions and big heady educations bicker about the advantages and disadvantages of something.

heres a good checklist is:

[x] is it fun?
[x] does it make you happy?
[x] is it not hurting anyone or bothering anyone?

if all are true, continue doing it. who cares.

garage band is sort of like acid or a stepped down logic right? what's so bad about that? the only way you could out yourself i think is if you used babya logic ;)

i have a cute joke. i think it's from a movie. if you've heard it, piss off:

the old wolf says to the young wolf as they sit on top of a hill gazing down at a bunch of sheep. licking his lips the young wolf says to the old wolf; "hey pa, lets run down there and eat up a sheep!" to which the old wolf replies "nah kid, let's walk down and then eat them all." ...

shit i think that's wrong, damnit.
Yeah but they weren't waiting for AT2 to load so they didn't have to worry about the sheep running off..roflmao

You are basically telling this guys that they are wrong when they feel upset about AT2's loading time.

You will always find this kind of feedback, when you start telling people how they should feel or when you decide that you will be the judge of what can or can't annoy somebody else.

I think that we all get your point, we just don't agree with it, is that really that hard for you to understand?

I hate long unjustified loading times, i dislike using my cpu to run some copy protection stuff all the time, it's not my job to make sure that the software is not cracked, and companies can't expect me to waste resources protecting their apps.

15 secodns for a sample library to load is totally fine with me, but my machine works for me, not for them, when i wait, it usually is for something i want to get done, or loaded, not to run some paranoid copy protection scheme and defending somebody else's money.

I think that most of the stuff that will give you a headache could sound stupid to me, but that doesn't mean that what you feel isn't valid, right?, stop thinking that we should all see this stuff the way you do, disagreement is not lack of understanding mate, you are trying to impose your point of view upon us, and some of us just won't tolerate that attitude.

i'd bet that you apologize all the time for telling other people the "truth of things", or at least you must be getting the finger quite often.

So if you 'upgraded' some software and the load time went from essentially 0 to 15 seconds all so you could have a device which makes your system less reliable, that would not irk you even in the slightest?

Maybe not, but it does some people, and that does not seem unreasonable in the context.

You are taking the 15 seconds out of context. If you do that I agree with you, but the original poster mostly posted about the crashes and the 15 seconds was a secondary point. If the crashes and general dongle mistrust were not at the forefront, I doubt the 15 seconds would be mentioned.

Anyway, I think we are just looking at the same thing from different perspectives and likely don't even really disagree.

cheers

....actually the long load time of A2 is a bit annoying!

It's like having to click too many times for something, that might need one less click.

I'm waiting for the next gen of cp where you have to attach a crank to the computer and wind-up the vst to full power. The crank handle will have a dna screener to verify the owner.

It'll take a good ten minutes to load but once cranked up will not eat cpu as much as a non cranked vst.

Do you think it'll catch on?

If I could modify the device to fit within the confines of a Fleshlight, I might be willing to crank it for fifteen minutes.

wow.....

to me, these guys have gone from "eh" to really bad.

What was their big announcment at namm 2005? at2 and ampegsvt

Namm 2006? at2 and ampegsvt

How many times did we hear "commin' soon" and it was not

So we wait and wait and wait.......then it launches, and I hear nothing but complaints (except for the "paid" magazines)

Oh, then they went all dingly dongle recently..........

I dunno, I'm getting so damed depressed about software................

Hey Hink, was it a bit late?

No prob, I got your point, but it had not much to do with what I intended to say. Look, actually, I use URS EQs. They are iLok protected and take about 3-5 seconds to load. This is a minimum pain. But makes me really think of what could happen, if they switched to synchrosoft. Taking 15s for an EQ would be a k.o. I wouldn't use it anymore.

Now, I just quit this discussion with again my point:
Waiting for something usefull, like analog gear warming up, sample load etc. is no problem.
Waiting for something useless, like decryption of code by the dongle, is frustrating.

The difference is not the time itself, but the feeling during that time. Nothing more. Full stop.
