Yeah i know it's good, but I wouldn't use it on my tracks. Usually a tremolo is enough (just listen to the breakdown of Adam Ellis & Brian Kearney's Remix of Feeling this way, the acids are panned with a tremolo). On the other hand, il might sound good one some fx, as you said. But if I want something out of the ordinary, I generally use the Volcano.Passing Bye wrote:It's not your usual stereo widener or effect, it's pretty neat for positioning, for fx's or some background stuff, rather overlooked little gemdjeos546 wrote:Yep ! Didn't think of that ! ThanksPassing Bye wrote:That Stereo Spread from Logic is nice too
But actually I've never used it. I prefer adding delay or phasing the sound than using Stereo Spread.
Unlike famous Clip Distortion
Cubase or Logic ?

I just had a peek at the effects included in Logic, and the ones that are truly unique are Delay Designer and Ringshifter. The distortion (phase and clip) have a very distinct sound. I can't really speak for Cubase as I have no idea what's included there, but part of the power of Logic is that nearly every effect that you can think of is covered, and often in various flavours. But, even when I used Logic, I already used a bunch of 3rd party plugins, there were just a few of Logic's that I used on a regular basis. So, apart from the ones I've mentioned, I don't really miss them specifically, it's more that I miss the sheer convenience of having everything handydjeos546 wrote:Actually I was just using it to make crazy delays on my breakdown effects & atmospheres, but I'm sure I'll manage to do the same with echoboy and supertap.BDeep wrote:Just noticed that it doesn't have pitchshifting like Delay Designer does, I wouldn't miss it (it's an incredibly cool effect, but one I never found much use for), but you might.
Delay Designer is one of the very few plugins I really miss from Logic, and couldn't find a proper replacement for, and the Ringshifter is also pretty unique. Ah well, Logic has a great set of tools all around actually.
Could you tell me what you miss from Logic ? I might have forgotten some useful things that are not in cubase...

Good evening everyone,
I've started testing cubase a few hours ago, and I really like it. That's definitely what I want from a DAW : plenty of functions, well organized, etc. It's not as intuitive as Logic though : I've spent at least 20 minutes trying to find the "loop play" function, and I still haven't found any way to start playing at the beginning of the loop...

In Logic, just selecting a part of the track with this automatically enables loop play. And when hitting space, it starts playing at the beginning of the loop...
Another thing I don't really like : found no easy way to open VSTs...

Hmmm, okay. Where can I show my Zebra ?
Well you get the idea : I'm used to logic, and switching is gonna take a looooooong time. I still press Option+X to show the mixer...
To those who are using cubase, or have used it enough to answer precise questions :
where can I get midi FX ? At the beginning of the track, I don't know what key it will be, so I use a transposer on every channel until I know...
Is there a way to zoom with a fader on your midi keyboard ?
What's the best way of layering sounds ?
Is there a way to sort VSTs the way you want ? Like creating a "favorites" folder ?
Thanks in advance.

I usually learn by myself, and quickly. The things I asked about are those I haven't found yet and I use all the time. Atm I'm just trying to do thing the same way I did in Logic (yeah, I already speak of logic in the past tense, even if I have only the demo right nowPassing Bye wrote:I think you should get 1 month all-pass and watch few of these for proper jump start![]()

If you have time to wait for someone to tell you how all that is done and for you to discover it on your own, than sure, your thing, if you want to get over with it in few hours and kick right in, than that tutorials are perfect, you will learn even more and expand your workflow, had that pass just the other month (got it here as promotion) and value is awesome, but hey

I'm still searching on my own, but if sb answers my question before I start looking for my answer again, it will be faster.Passing Bye wrote:If you have time to wait for someone to tell you how all that is done and for you to discover it on your own, than sure, your thing, if you want to get over with it in few hours and kick right in, than that tutorials are perfect, you will learn even more and expand your workflow, had that pass just the other month (got it here as promotion) and value is awesome, but hey
And I know sometimes tutorials are faster, but they also teach you things that you already know. Which is why I generally prefer looking for specific answers when I need some.

Well, suit yourself, your thing really, but for the record, you may just overlook some Cubase specific stuff on the way and that can impact your workflow, some stuff could be done even better than in Logic, yeah, I know, we got used to do some things, even if we know shortcut, 3 different faster ways to do it, we do it how we learn it, muscles memory, so yeah, I guess old dogs and new tricks thing, so yeah, there's no point wasting money and time on tutorials

I will spend some time on tutorials. Just not now. I'm gonna have a busy week (so no time for producing) so I wanna try to play around in Cubase as much as I can. But as soon as I have time to, I'll go to my "tutorials" bookmark folder and watch a few.Passing Bye wrote:Well, suit yourself, your thing really, but for the record, you may just overlook some Cubase specific stuff on the way and that can impact your workflow, some stuff could be done even better than in Logic, yeah, I know, we got used to do some things, even if we know shortcut, 3 different faster ways to do it, we do it how we learn it, muscles memory, so yeah, I guess old dogs and new tricks thing, so yeah, there's no point wasting money and time on tutorials

Yeah I read sth about that one a while ago. I haven't tried it yet but it seems very good.Passing Bye wrote:Check Quadrafuzz, that's like "it" plugin from Cubase mostly for psytrance bass-es, but was reading some folks got that far and using it even on master, really interesting thing, finally got pimped in 8![]()
Also I've got the Ohmforce Ohmicide, on of the best (if not the best) distortion plugins, and with Ohmicide Quadrafuzz and Saturn, I think I can manage to do great acids !

Is there any good VST to detect the tempo of a track ? I mean, a plugin that works pretty much like the logic tempo detector, something that just tells you what the tempo is without changing anything in your project.
I know that there is a built in way to detect the tempo, but it doesn't work live (which means that when I a doing a mashup for instance, I have to stop everything to detect the tempo...)

Hi everyone !
I've been trying to test cubase for a little while now (I said trying to because of the heat...), and I've got a little question for those who use it.
Is there a way to organize VSTs the way you want ? I mean I'd like my favorite plugins in one folder, so that I can use them very quickly, and other plugins sorted by manufacturer. I'd like to do this with Cubase plugins, VST2 and VST3 plugins...
Audio Unit is actually a lot easier to use : all the plugins are stored in the same folder, and they are sorted by manufacturer in the DAW. Moreover you can create extra folders (favorites), etc without moving any file on the HDD.
