So there should be no problem for them to cut the price of upgradingSailor16 wrote:Yes, from this we can clearly see that for the year 2014 they made 6144000 SEK after taxes, salaries, etcetera. Which in today's conversion rates would equal 730073 US dollars or 651485 Euros. In a sentence: Yes, they make profits and business is quite good.

Google translation came up with some misleading translations too.Numanoid wrote:I was thinking in Norwegian/Swedish language, and didn't quite manage to translate correctlychk071 wrote:Turnover =/ income. Well, no idea about the latest figure, but i really feel like this is once again making it worse than it is. I dunno what it is about Reason or FL Studio that people hate so much about it, that they feel the need to predict word downfall every time there's news about it. I prefer VST, and VST hosts too, i looked into Reason 7 when i was able to buy it for cheap here on the market place, found out that it doesn't quite give me what i need, and i'm too addicted to VST's, so i parted with it again. But i wouldn't consider predicting bad sales, bad business, or that RE's aren't going well because of it. Especially if i have no idea what the actual figures say. And every time someone has to dig for the old links to the known facts about PH's business to calm the trolls down. Weird weird.

Must be hard running a company in Sweden - as soon as you say 'Hey we need to make more SEKS', everyone just wants to get nekkidNumanoid wrote:Excellent source, thanks for sharingeXode wrote:You can see the official figures up to 2014 here (since you love to speculate anyway):

So the year ending 2014 they had turnover of about 80 million SEK, or just below $10 million US dollar, with a 10% surplus.
So a pretty good turn around from 2012, when they had a deficit of 25%
But they only do half the business of Clavia, wow didn't realize how big they are:

Ummm Ableton is by far my most expensive DAW upgrade, once you get Studio you're looking at around $200-290 per upgrade depending on sales.kiezum wrote:Cubase is 99 euro for 7 to 8. And 49 euro for 8 tot 8.5.machinesworking wrote: Even on that line Reason is traditionally $129 to upgrade compared to roughly $200 for most DAWs (including Logic). Not a small price but unless you're making $10 an hour not that much.
Ableton is little bit more, but you get a lot of new features.
Again, in the bigger picture it's not much. Keeping all my plug ins up to date is a far more expensive habit than a once every two years or so upgrade of a DAW... In the case of Ableton 9 took over 3 years.

Keeping up with the latest upgrade is indeed expensive. Sometimes there are huge benefits: better GUI, improved rendering/sound engine, taking advantage of latest tech, etc. Many times those same benefits come with a lot less bang for the investment required: so-so GUI upgrades, rebuilt engine that sounds the same, new buttons! What is really bad is when outstanding issues are not addressed unless you pay for it, or worse yet...don't get addressed at all in the upgrade.
For each of us it is a pick and choose to determine what works for us. I forget the upgrade paths I chose and paid for with Reason. But I know, even though I have the latest, I really haven't used it much since v7. V8 was a good idea that just wasn't executed. Ultimately it felt like I was paying for the same old thing. It appears to be the same with v9.
I will likely upgrade hoping that when the inspiration to play with it again comes around again I will find something new to enjoy with it.

This will be my first upgrade. And clearly it will be a while before another one
If they ever get the beta to me I can determine the little workflow things that they have/have not improved on

Theo I agree with much of what you are saying here. I have used Reason since Version 3 on Mac OS 9. I still use it today for much of my composing and creating. It is not quite there yet as a full replacement DAW but it gets closer with every iteration.
I was disappointed personally with the Studio One v2 to v3 upgrade including no viable options for Artist to Professional. I still haven't been able to justify spending $80.00 just to add VST support.
I use Live but its workflow is just not how I work so I doubt I will pay, what is usually a quite high amount, for the next upgrade.
The other main DAW I use is FL Studio, and I just like the piano roll and workflow there so much. I rewire Reason into it often.
Everybody has their favorite and apparently many have the ones they love to 'hate' on. I may not immediately upgrade to V9 but there is enough to warrant it soon.

The Jiggery-Pokery Bucket Brigade Bundle is an absolute no-brainer at €29.00.Sailor16 wrote:Numanoid wrote:BTW Did anybody miss a sale at Reason, it just came on with up to 70% off Rack Extentions and Refills![]()

I actually think it's a mistake.
It consists of the Chenille Chorus Ensemble (currently on sale for €25, down from €49), the Steerpike BBD Delay Ensemble (currently on sale for €19, down from €39), and the Titus BBD Delay Line (currently on sale for €9, down from €19).
Yet the bundle technically isn't on sale, as there's not an original price with a line through it and the sale price next to it. Weird, but I'm not complaining.
If you have any interest in another delay and/or chorus for your Reason rack, you should jump on it before they fix it. I wasn't even that interested in the delay, but for €4 more, it would have been incredibly stupid not to get the bundle.

This...
But even if things often takes more time and is a bit more tedious to do in Reason than other DAWs, where I can just pull up a plugin that does the job, it's usually more fun to play and experiment in Reason. I guess the road is more important than the destination for me.
I've played a bit with the new Player devices in the beta now. And again.. they're really fun. I may have to reconsider my decision to not buy this update. Don't know if I'll ever need Pitch edit though.
and this...TheoM wrote:If i had a caveat, it would be only one.. props seems to do some amazing features but only half way.
Sometimes I get damn frustrated because they've implemented a cool feature/device, but left out just that tiny detail that would make it so much better/useful.TheoM wrote:it's rock stable, i mean the thing never crashes, and it's so FUN to COMPOSE with. It stimulates creativity IMO.

If you mean Studio One, that's not true at all. The everyday price of the "Studio One Pro V1 or V2 to V3" upgrade is $149.95 at JRRshop.com.machinesworking wrote:once you get Studio you're looking at around $200-290 per upgrade depending on sales.
I got mine there for $90 on sale, and I paid under $200 for Studio One Pro V2.6.
