Having the Novation X Station, which was a V Station supposedly, the one thing I did like about it was the filter. Sometimes a "cheap" filter can do some good things. I miss the filters on my EMU E6400, especially the metallic sounding bandpass!Teksonik wrote:I had forgotten I even own a V-Station license. Just installed it on this system and had a play. It's still a nice synth and back in the day it was relevant but there are so many other choices now at least in my VSTi folder that V-Station would have a hard time ever making it on to a track.....
So, anyone still using Novation V-Station?

That's a pretty cool deal. I have the Bass Station and I actually like it (I still use it from time to time even over the Legend for some things). So I am intrigued by the V Station. I wonder if the Midnight Suite is worth bothering with at all.VariKusBrainZ wrote:£14

Absolutely NOT! Awful sounding thing. I kind of went for the Novation sound way back when, when I had a Novation Super Nova. I quickly tired of it and everything since sounded like a weak facsimile of the Nova family which looking back from these days was really not that nice a sound...personal opinion only

Fair enough.yul wrote:Not unless tou completely turn off filter enveloppe (at 0) and use an LFO instead. Actually, i quite hated it for some sounds, also because it is so unpredictable.
Anyways, it seems part of the design and can’t be changed. I got over it and got to appreciate ir the way it is which is totally fine.
I still remember how much time it took me to figure out that using 2 or more oscillators always had that weird punchy sound, because phase retriggering is activated by default, and somewhere hidden on page 2.

I find the Ultranova very weak and bland sounding. It sounds like they completely amputated the little character there was in the former Nova synths, and made it conform to the current ideal of clean, posh, and character-less synths. I must say i quite like the sound of the older Nova's though. Surely not the best sounding synths ever, but, by far not the worst either, IMO.jacqueslacouth wrote:Absolutely NOT! I've got V-station somewhere, but haven't used it for years. I never really cared for the sound or features.
I see it's 64 bit now, so maybe I'll dig it out and give it another try.
I have a hardware Nova that I still keep around and use a bit.
The Nova always sounded much better to me.

I've watched a gazillion of different vids, and, it just doesn't blow me away somehow. To each his own.EvilDragon wrote:

Also on my system and I haven't used it for years............So I tried it again awhile ago and remember why i haven't used it for years
.
Back in the days it was good..... but so many better options now.. I guess i keep it installed if I have to revisit old projects that may have used it.
Plus the GUI is so small and preset browser almost non existent.

Agreed, not the worst sounding synths (actually, not bad at all amongst the VAs of the time) but their time has long since past.chk071 wrote:I find the Ultranova very weak and bland sounding. In isolation V-Station sounds good but when compared to other options we have at our disposal now it just can't compete.
All my opinion of course and others will no doubt disagree but as time goes on plugins begin to be dropped out of my favorites folder as they are replaced by superior sounding and functioning alternatives.

I'm not a big fan of the Midnight plugins but the Focusrite Red EQ sits on many of my Guitar Templates. Seems to fit my source material quite well.Local Man wrote: I wonder if the Midnight Suite is worth bothering with at all.
But if you get the Midnight plugins as part of a deal then they are certainly worth installing. Perhaps they will fit your source material just as well.....
What is this deal ? V-Station, Bass Station and the Midnight plugins for something like $13 ?
Despite what I've said earlier in this thread I'd say go for it....if for nothing else an afternoon's entertainment. Can't go to a movie for $13 anymore........

I would say, it sounds OK. Ish. Can have a nice character for some sounds. But, the K-Station came out in 2002, i think, so, it's a bit long in the teeth now. FWIW. There's surely been a lot of progress since then.
If it had more polyphony, and, there wasn't that odd filter "glitch", i'd probably use it more. Surely has a sound of its own, which is nice for some things.
BTW, the V-Station and Bass Station plugins have also been in the Beat magazine's content, 5,55 € for the ISO file (need to explicitely choose the ISO, in the drop down menu where it says "Download-Magazin"): https://www.falkemedia-shop.de/sound/be ... 16?number=
