One Synth Challenge #96: Nabla by Full Bucket (Voting Over)

Lately, I route all the "synth" parts to a bus that has a gentle sidechain compressor on it, and route the kicks and sometimes (if they're meant to stand out) toms or snare to another bus that serves as the sidechain input. (on that bus, I EQ down the bass) This is just a "mixing" routing, to make room for the drum transients. If I want one or two parts to noticeably pump, they get they're own dedicated compressor that hits harder and has a slower release. (Once, I tried making the shared bus pump hard, but got slammed for it in comments and voting.)Carl_saved wrote:How do you guys do sidechaining? I'd like to hear some ideas. Do you put a compressor on each track that needs sidechained compression, or do you route all such tracks to one single track and put a compressor on that one?
And another question: I frequently hear this FOTF type sidechaining that continues even though the kick drum isn't playing. How is that done? Draw automation or have something like a "ghost kick" that is not audible but routet into sidechain compressors ... or something completely different?
The ghost kick thing is pretty common in video tutorials etc., and makes sense in theory because you can both pump when the drums are silent and control the source frequency. I haven't done it lately though, as I have OneKnob Pumper for generating pumping independent of drums (when outside OSC), and I suspect there's a free equivalent.

When I load a .fxp Nabla says "This file is for a newer version of this effect" ...
I'm running v 1.0.1
Are you running a different version of Nabla to this? Else ... Any ideas?

A known problem... better use the built-in load menu of Nabla, should work fine!
Cheers Björn

Product Description
volume modulation effect which can be used as a fake side-chain compressor in the manner of Kickstart by Nicky Romero (which was actually developed by Cableguys).
So, the idea behind BIGKIXDIPPA is to control the volume of the processed audio signal by drawing a curve which will be applied to the signal’s amplitude. This method can be used to emulate the classic pumping sound which is usually achieved by triggering a side-chain compressor with a kick drum on each beat in modern four on the floor arrangements. But the plugin can definitely do more than just that, since you are free to draw pretty much any kind of curve you want and the plugin can also follow different time signatures.

In Reaper at least, pressing File in Nabla, and then selecting either Load Bank or Load Program does nothing at allrghvdberg wrote: ... er .. use the built-in load menu of Nabla ?

Here using Reaper 5.32 selecting Load Bank after pressing the file button on Nabla brings up a file explorer window that allows me to browse to where I had saved the fxp file that I had uploaded for my earlier pitch issue. And it seems to load ok.doctorbob wrote: In Reaper at least, pressing File in Nabla, and then selecting either Load Bank or Load Program does nothing at all![]()

Did you update to the latest version of Nabla 1.1.0 ?doctorbob wrote: In Reaper at least, pressing File in Nabla, and then selecting either Load Bank or Load Program does nothing at all![]()
... so either my Reaper config is duff, or there's some incompatibility here. I can use the Reaper system to Save and Load Presets, so I can use my own things. Oh well ...

Nice work on this synth Björn, perfect for the OSC I think
(Sry mac peeps
)
Manual is rather well done too.
My synth1 entry kinda got derailed by a sciatic nerve thing (or mostly from the brain-deadening pain medication that went with it) but I'm enthused to get something completed for this one so see you all at the deadline

Early entry cause I might not get time to do any more work on it this month. Still needs some percussion and arrangement work. Fun synth to work with, big thanks to the developer.
