The reverse is so equally true, and true for any decent synth.pdxindy wrote: ......... There is lots of stuff Omnisphere simply cannot do.

I hope one day Mr. Persing releases a trial for Omni 2, forever killing he inevitable shitstorm that follows "should I buy Omni" threads

If you were on the MAC, Alchemy could be an alternative..

Hmmmm...I love Omnisphere and Alchemy and I agree that there is a good amount of overlap between the two, but I see Omnisphere as sitting somewhere between a good sample library of bread-n-butter instruments (i.e., as the OP requested) and the hybrid synthesis types for which Alchemy is known.liquidsound wrote:If you were on the MAC, Alchemy could be an alternative..
In other words, I don't think I'd recommend Omni or Alchemy for this:
As much as I love those two synths, NI Komplete just seems like a perfect fit with Kontakt and all the included libraries. I don't own Halion, so I can't comment there.emotica wrote:Is the library as vast as I think it is when it comes to bread and butter e.g. strings, piano, rhodes, with all the additional synth engine tweaks you can do to them or do I have the wrong impressions?

If I need a synth sound in my song, it's usually easier/faster for me to just program it in a synth I find really easy to use (Hive, Massive, Element, DUNE 1) than it is to browse through some enormous library of presets.
If I need a sample-based patch, I use a well-organized Kontakt or UVI library, or an easy-to-use rompler like Nexus or HALion Sonic.
Omnisphere is in this really weird space for me where I don't find it intuitive to program, and even though the patch-browsing facilities are top-notch, I literally haven't found a single patch in its enormous factory library that I found useful for one of my tracks. The kinds of instruments I use in my tracks are simple: guitar, pad, bass, piano, pluck, etc. Omnisphere's library is just not what I need, and its deep synthesis capabilities don't matter to me because I'd rather program the synths I'm already familiar with.
I admire Omnisphere. It's just not for me.

Forgive my ignorance, but what stops Halion 6 doing the stuff that Omni 2 does?
I have just been fiddling around with the Halion 6 demo, and it can sample from practially any source, apparently even its own internal instruments.
How long would it take to knock up the weird sound a person needs ?
Bespoke versus off the shelf ?
Halion 6 is cheaper, and crucially,it has a (rather large download) demo.

Yup. I can relate to that, or in the topic of this thread, I feel like this good be an issue with Omni for me.UltimateOutsider wrote:If I need a synth sound in my song, it's usually easier/faster for me to just program it in a synth I find really easy to use (Hive, Massive, Element, DUNE 1) than it is to browse through some enormous library of presets.

As far as Alchemy goes, I still have the player backupped on and older ext. hdd and *maybe* 5 expansions for it, so there is that area I could cover. I just don't like to deal with the player that much tbh, even though the snapshot/X/Y is quite fun at times and I know there was a *trick* to reassign those 8 macros to random parameters, so you would have even more variations to that. Sad I could never got the more organic ones, like the guitar mutations and the one with the voices/vocals. I never got past the "noodle with it" stage with Alchemy ever.
I was tinkering with the idea of Sampletank 3, but not quite sure about the content and quality. Seems the UI is a lot cleaner than the one from Halion Sonic 3 (which is still great and offers features like to turn off all inserts.)
Back to Komplete - as mentioned, I adore Reaktor and I believe Kontakt is a great addition, being somewhat of a standard for so many libaries, but there are many things in Komplete I owned and sold already.
