Are you automating the midi cc from a midi file?dupont wrote: Thu Dec 27, 2018 6:05 pm @fmr
I made some tests with Mini LP filter with a saw wave wavetable engine
Pigment cutoff modulated by midi CC : filter stuttered

Pigment cutoff modulated by LFO : filter smooth
https://drive.google.com/open?id=10R9Lw ... OjdOncjFfZ
tyrell N6 cutoff modulated by midi CC : filter smooth, so no issue with controler

Note : i'm on OSX.
I got annoying hanging notes in reaper.
Picture this ! Arturia Pigments is here

From a midi clip In Reaper. I get the same stuttered filter cutoff result when I turn the midi CC in real time or when I turn the filter knob with the mouse in pigment UI.Biome_Digital wrote: Thu Dec 27, 2018 7:40 pmAre you automating the midi cc from a midi file?dupont wrote: Thu Dec 27, 2018 6:05 pm @fmr

I don’t have issues with it, but I am using a PC. Maybe it is only an issue when using a Mac?

It is steppy over an 8 bar midi file. That has to be to do with the number of little bars in reapers midi cc. Over 1 bar it's pretty smooth. Just twiddling the knob is smooth too if it's quite fast but at higher resonance there is a stepping sound.
What would cause that?

i really like pigments. it sounds great, and has a workflow, that keeps you focus on the sound. the many modulation possibilities, and the filters, great! i can't compare it with serum (don't own it, never used it), but i have thing for the arturia sound...
i see room for improvements (for example unison for VA, already mentioned), but i can create sounds from scratch, and i can feel when you change a parameter, a lfo sync mode, or bigger, more complex modulation or parameter settings, the UI gives you control, not only with the eyes. what you see and what you hear are tied together. (and yes, other synths can do that, i do not know...)
the filter (perhaps not all filters) is very sensitive for keyboard tracking, it can really change a sound. which is normal, but it is more noticable in some way.

Can you post a link to the REAPER sequence? I suspect this has something to do with the MIDI resolution you are using, not with Pigments. Each MIDI controller only has 7-bit resolution, so if you space the steps too much, you will definitely listen to them when controlling filter cutoff, volume, whatever. Some synths have an internal smoother algorithm, others don't (probably Pigments doesn't). If you use one of the internal modulators, like LFOs, Functions, Envelopes, etc., you don't hear any steps.dupont wrote: Thu Dec 27, 2018 7:45 pmFrom a midi clip In Reaper. If you carefully red my previous answers, it could not be a CC issue :
1-I can reproduce the same effect without sending CC to pigment but by turning the filter with the mouse straight on pigment UI
2-the same midi clip with CC sent to tyrell N6 cutoff is fine
Note : CC recorded in Reaper midi item (recorded real time) are at max resolution.
I tried in ableton live, still the same issue.
I tried In Reaper with an item clip with CC drawn by hand at full resolution (1/128) and filter is still stuttered. As such high resolution, others softsynths behave OK.

You wrote yourself that, with the LFO modulation, filter is smooth. I tried here, after what you wrote, by moving the cutoff control with the mouse, and didn't hear any problem. Yet, you insist the problem is with Pigments, not with the way you are trying to do things...dupont wrote: Fri Dec 28, 2018 10:04 am @fmr

I just tested the same thing with REAPER, and got exactly the same results as you (stepped modulation). So, the problem resides in the way MIDI (being it REAPER or LIVE) creates the modulation, which isn't smooth enough. I advise you to read this: https://vi-control.net/community/thread ... per.54554/

yes, it seems related to how the midi data are extrapolated.fmr wrote: Fri Dec 28, 2018 10:18 amYou wrote yourself that, with the LFO modulation, filter is smooth. I think pigment is not as good as other plugin (tyrell N6 for example) at smoothing data events (if that exist English is not my native language) than other plugins.
Pigment is still perharps in a state of beta release ?
This can't explain why I can reproduce the issue by moving the cutoff with the mouse and without any CC.

Some plug-ins have internal smoothing algorithms to interpolate MIDI data, others don't. This is a design choice, like not implementing Unison in the VA oscillators, and has nothing to do with beta state or something. You can't judge a synth just because it lacks a feature others have. Arturia may implement this in a future version, or not.dupont wrote: Fri Dec 28, 2018 11:39 am I think pigment is not as good as other plugin (tyrell N6 for example) at smoothing data events (if that exist English is not my native language) than other plugins.
You can't (at least, I can't). There must be something else you are doing.dupont wrote: Fri Dec 28, 2018 11:39 am This can't explain why I can reproduce the issue by moving the cutoff with the mouse and without any CC.

Yeah, why is that? CPU-consumption?
