AVX was developed by Intel and AMD, Intel was first to implement it in their CPUs and AMD followed. AMD also has CPUs with AVX2 but not yet or announced for AVX-512. Double-check that the specific AMD CPU supports the instructions sets you want.ahanysz wrote: Wed Aug 26, 2020 3:54 am Just checking: although "Intel AVX" has Intel as part of the brand name, AVX is also supported by modern AMD processors, right?

this is thread is the reason i bought fathom pro, today. when i like the fathom pro, it has all the things i like.. maybe later i will go vector.. (i am not a preset guy, i will use it for sounddesign.)
small question; are the fathom pro, and fathom vector seperate synths, in the sense, fathom pro will also be developed further.
i read the thread, not all... fathom pro has all on board already, i read, something more developers do.
the question must be more specific: will there be an upgrade or if it will be seperate developed, in a way.., a crossgrade from fathom pro? as i bought it too late.... o well. not a biggy.
(avast was again pretty nasty with the installer, but it worked.. the GUI, within 5 minutes, i had it.. modular approach, additive, waveform draw etc. i must of course discover all the possibilities.)
you must manually set the directory within fathom pro? yes i did, on my desktop i will do it it another drive.

I'm not sure about AMD.
It definitely has the AVX hardware present but I'm using the Intel compiler plugin to Visual Studio to create the build so I'm not sure the assembly language instructions are the same.
I would be interested to find out if anyone with an AMD processor who got the free Pro AVX has it working.
Yes Fathom Pro will continue to be upgraded with features and fixes. Fathom Pro's audio engine will continue to be upgraded with everything that Vector gets except of course the advanced features like the Intel AVX, Metamorphic Oscillator and 16 Channel Delay.

Congrats on the updates and releases! Thanks very much for making the metamorphic oscillator demo-able with those presets, too.

OK, AVX is looking good on my Ryzen 2600 too. Ten minutes of testing suggests that, for patches using detune, CPU usage with AVX is somewhere between 20% and 50% of CPU without AVX, depending on what else is going in in the patch. (For patches without detune, I'm not yet seeing any obvious performance difference between AVX, Fathom 3.0 with AVX turned off, or Fathom v2.33. But still, I'm pretty happy with this for a $5 upgrade.)

Yes, that's correct. AVX really only impacts detune.
It does all the detune voices in parallel giving you those extra voices for free.
Thanks for reporting.

Hi guys,
just starting to explore Fathom Vector. Here's a first patch which can be used as Arp patch.
Please use your favorite Arp to drive Fathom Vector, use let's say 1/8 and press a low key, D-1 for instance, or D-1 + D0 ...
I have used the Metamorphic Oscillator. Part of the patch is, that I used the ripples module and modulated the ripples frequency by a s&h modulator. With high ripples frequency you get a high pitch sound added to the base sound. But ripples was not the only thing ... Quite funny, I started with a simple sawtooth and ended up with this patch.
Have fun!

Cool, Very interesting use of the oscillator. I see modulations on the impulse function, voltage ripple function and chop function. Also great use of the random sample and hold modulator as well as the mixer and multi-delay.
If you don't mind I'm going to add that to the Trance Warehouse bank.
Here's the preset in action.

Such sounds bode well for the future. Lots of punch, crunch, and motion. I held out a 6 note chord using Peter's preset to let it all sync in for a while

Wow, Everett and glokraw nice demos of my patch. Thanks for taking the time to check it out.FathomSynth wrote: Mon Aug 31, 2020 5:56 pm Cool, Very interesting use of the oscillator. Please feel free to put use the patch as synth preset, Everett.
Listening to glokraws 6 notes cluster I figure that the delay could use some ping ponging to improve it a little.
Peter
