I did actually think about that but thought, "why am I wasting my time with this?". So deleted it all and got on with my work.

It doesn't actually bother me if people can hear low frequencies or not. :P

I hear you.

I rest my case.

(If you don't have RePro, you can hear that patch being played ... you have to click on that link rather than play the embedded video to jump to the right timestamp.)

(BONUS: pretty rockin' rendition of Legend of Zelda theme. ...among other things! This is a really excellent patch demo video.)
Sounds amazing. Love the Zelda melody too. But there really isn't much bass in that patch, not compared to the sub bass I had out of Repro and pigments earlier. I have no idea what's going on now. I think I am going to leave it at that because I am truly puzzled now. :hihi:

Heh heh. Fair. (And, FTR, I meant no disrespect; I was just taking issue with the "needs ears checked" claim.)

It seems to be a difference of definition. In my lexicon, "thin" ≠ "no bass", which seems to be your point.

Yes, Pigments is capable of making a bass sound. Wouldn't be my go-to for bass (by any stretch of the imagination), but it can. It's still "thin," overall.

...IMO.

I am sort of with you here too, though I am not sure I would go with the word thin. For me it is more a vanilla like sound, 'ok', 'alright'.

I definitely did not take offense to the ears needing to be checked comment :).. Taste in sound is always personal, and there are quite a few synths that sound phenomenal to me that may not sound that way to others, and of course you wonder what is wrong with their hearing :), till you remember that sound aesthetics is always personal.

(I for instance didn't much like the sound of the much touted Camel Audio Alchemy for instance, it too for me was for the most part 'ok' and 'alright' but never my go to synth for anything. Same with the Kurzweil K2000/K2500 that my friend and business partner at the time loved and I kept thinking, 'ok'?, whereas I loved my Roland Hardware Sampler and Synths)

btw, no offence intended. I'm sure that comment wasn't aimed at anyone personally. :tu:

You don't even have to take the time to try it in Pigments. .... ...He reached for Arturia's Prophet V instead of RePro (and I don't think it sounds nearly as good as RePro), but it does help show how Pigments fails at the task. ...at least by his hand.
I agree. Pigments has a thin sound and it also has a certain bell-like sound to some if not a lot of it's patches. Someone mentioned that bell-like sound like earlier. I consider those two as drawbacks and it partially turned me off from buying it this past week. I prefer Dune's punchy and wide sound. Right now I have a bunch of VST's such as Diva (which is my favorite), Massive X and NI stuff, Ableton VST's, so I'm not sure if I need anything right now. I am focused on wanting a hardware synth though.

I do give credit to Pigments for their interface as it's very intuitive and the modulations look very deep. I currently have a hard time with the sound it produces.

Would something such Massive X or Ableton Wavetable be comparable to Pigments?

No Pigments can do a lot more

Did someone say my name and Synthwave? Awesome! And yes, I have both synths and they are VERY NICE for Synthwave indeed.

As some people pointed out here, comparing Dune 3 and Pigments 3 is a comparison between two of the best soft synths ever released. You can't go wrong with either of them.

I didn't read the whole thread but... is it perhaps also a question of the price? If you own some Arturia stuff, you get a good price on Pigments, while Dune costs normal price.

I demoed both… long and hard.
First I felt Pigments 3 was visually very tempting. It had some nice factory presets & preset browser was very good… but it seemed to be very heavy on my CPU. And I some how really wanted to like it very much - but something with the sound just didn’t really click with me.

Dune 3 on the other hand… The first impression was wow! This sounds amazing! But the interface… I just couldn’t understand it at all! And the preset browser was soooo “old school” to put it nicely.

But I ended up buying Dune. Mainly for the factory presets. They were just so “oh I can use this… I can use this… I can definitely use this!”. And after studying some tutorials the interface wasn’t that scary anymore. And now Dune is even updated having new browser etc… It is a power synth indeed!

I own both - personally both are fantastic - slightly prefer sound from Dune 3 but find Pigments 3 much easier and more intuitive (for me) to use. That said although some patches in Dune 3 knock me off my feet I find overall sound a bit - not sure how to describe it a bit plasticky/smooth had similar feelings with Obsession when I demoed it. Legend though (different type of synth of course) which I also own - sounds amazing can sound both harsh and aggressive or soft and melodic

Find I rarely use either though - I mostly reach first for Bazille or Hive 2 first - just recently I've been wowed by EDM/Trance plucks within Bazille

Price was definitely a factor, but I think I might just hold off on buying either. Dune sounds better to me so I may get that, but I think I might focus more on a hardware synth.
