I'm completely happy with my host

If I had to limit myself to just one host (and I don't, thank goodness 8) ) then I think Sonar 4 would be a strong contender, because it does do just about everything...at least up to a point.

But in my line of work I have to use Sibelius for notation.

And I know I would definitely miss the audio editing features in Audition, as I mostly work with audio rather than MIDI.

Then again Sonar doesn't have sound modules to rival Reason's NN-XT et al. Or a drum machine like ReDrum....

OK, so I'm really glad that I don't need to limit myself to just one host. Using a variety of specialist tools is pretty cool, and can be a lot of fun in terms of creativity.

But I'm glad for those of you who can. I can see that it would simplify life!

Because they can and because many have totally different tonal characteristics. The same cannot be siad for hosts. If a host is doing its job, the sound should be completely transparent, should it not?
More than one pair of shoes[/quote]
So that one can be airing out whilst the other is having the foot odour reinvigorated.
more than one room in their house?
because all my furniture wouldn't fit in a single room. I would actually prefer a studio apartment.

Given that Cakewalk offers a demo and uses the least-onerous copy protection scheme of any of the major (and not so major) hosts and sequencers, the "no resale or transfer" is a deal I can choose to accept or not. Doug
Podium is without copy protection. The way it should be.

At least that's one advantage Orion has over FLS:

The instruments are very good. :) Plus, you will get a new instrument more often that the average FLS user like myself. :( Apart from Sytrus and a few other, Image-Line needs to step their game up with the upcompng FLS 5. :x 8)
That's what I do like about Imageline. Synths and other stuff are all optional. They spend a lot of time making it easier and more enjoyable to work in their sequencer. They understand that people would rather bring their own instruments to the studio than play instruments provided by the house, particularly if you are forced to pay for them whether you will ever use them or not.

I am. Kelly's Music in Manitoba has S4PE for $750.

I'll give Kelly's a plug here. I've ordered from them multiple times. Fast service - decent prices.

That's an interesting perspective given that Fruity ships with at least as many instruments as ORION. I suppose its just that they are so krap they don't count?

Agree with ya Bones, except that damn Ultran -- I still have yet to make a decent patch with that thing. All that waiting for new features in Orion, only to get a freaky beast no one asked for.

Ah, all is forgiven with the Screamer tho... GO RICH GO! :D
