it's Sonar 4P that did the trick
I love it and it's the first time I
can make music without 'distractions'

I think that all the hosts are 'arriving'. They all seem to have turned to workflow improvements for the latest updates since all the basic functionality was already there (more or less).

That is a pretty strong statement. Wait until the novelty wears off.

I also upgraded to S4 now and am just as happy. I had a full day recording session on Satirday and gave S4 a real workout. I can say with all honesty that I am impressed and the new workflow enhancements made life much easier.

As soon as I am finished with this project I want to dive into the suround capabilities of Sonar.

I upgraded my drum making madness to DR008. I can also say that the only thing I can ask is why I was such a fool to wait so long. DR008 is totally awesome.

I've come to the conclusion that relying on a single host is not only unecessary(for me), its not fun either.

I have:

Orion Platinum
FLStudio XXL
Renoise
EnergyXT
Tracktion
Live 4

Admittedly i don't use all of them right now, but i know times will come when i will want to use each one for different reasons.

I might use FLStudio to make some scratch samples using its great scratching plugin. I can use Renoise/Orion for rolling drum loops and other parts for Live as they both have great render facilities.

With Live i can experiment, perform and remix.

EnergyXT...well its just the dogs cogs really isn't it, just so much fun and versatility, it patches up holes in other hosts

Tracktion is an easy to use host for recording and simple audio arranging, might even be good for final edit/mix but i haven't tried it that much yet! (Live may fill this gap anyway, i am starting to realise the power of arrangement view).

So i'd have to say i'm happy with all my hosts!!

I've siad that before...

I am pretty happy with nuendo though.

I was f**king around on an old otari 8track the other day though and was completely happy with that too.....

I think the novelty of new or different gear soon wears off and once you start pushing the boundaries you'll want something else. Not better, different.

I thought S3PE was pretty damn good. And it still is. I do have a jones to upgrade. But now I have wait for S4 though

I'm another Sonar user with a lot of what I call the "pre-hosts". Reason, FL Studio, Acid, Project 5, Live 4 (which I consider an instrument rather than a host or DAW), and now Orion.

I've always been happy to finish songs in Sonar, but never liked starting them in Sonar. I guess that is why I have gone through so many of the little stand alone packages. I think now I am finally happy. Orion has the one thing that was missing from Sonar and reason, a simple polyphonic pattern sequence system that stores patters at the instrument level. There are a few things I don't like about Orion such as not being able to switch instruments within a channel and MIDI export could be a little cleaner. Buy hey, I started out with a 4-track reel to reel and two polyphonic synths as my studio.

So while there are improvements that can be made to my combination of Sonar 3 and Orion, I'm happier with my system than ever. I'm willing to work through any issues becasue those issues do not get in my way when composing, and they don't have a negative effect on my final product.

Yes, I'm happy.

Looks a LOT better, always hated the Sonar and Acid GUI.
Doesn't look as cluttered as it used to for some reason.
Looks to me like SX/Nuendo can now wear the "ugliest GUI" crown.

I like variety as well.. but I remember my 'work flow' very well too, starting in one program, getting stuck, move to an other host, not happy with something, move to other host, just missing that one function, go back to first host.. and in the end you've spend half your time setting up things in 3 different programs and the track is still only 1 minute long

I've still got FL and Audiomulch to do loop stuff and sound design to import in S4. I'm sure the novelty will wear off somewhat but I'll still be left with a host that works for me

I'm completely happy with my host
