About the new startup:
It give me a strange feelling, something like caos, maybe if the buttons would be more centered, grouped.. idk
For me, the UX is more important btw.

About the keyboard, great for open/save settings :tu: But the abobe keyboard on the top is useless while doesn' t have a propper visual feedback,
And the buttons and space, could be more compact.
Jist my 2 cents.

Regards.

Agree. Perhaps changing button layout will make it less confusing:

Jo, this is a contentious topic where preferences vary. My suggestion would be to revert to the original format and for you to carefully consider it. There are numerous possibilities to explore. Additionally, consider whether the startup buttons are truly necessary. Instead, MuLab could open without buttons. However, you could implement a setting that allows users to choose whether to open the last worked-on project, a closed project, or start with an empty project. This approach would streamline the interface for both newcomers and experienced MuLab users.

I quite agree with old castle. Revert and consider, or, my preference, open last project, that's what I always do anyway. But I know there are occasions where the startup screen is useful, and tbh, I would paradoxically actually prefer to keep it.

Personally, I would like it as I stated, screensaver left, buttons right, but obviously everyone has their preferred ways... :)

I really like the startup splash screen alone, but the menu going on top was always a no go for me besides this is the way always (since I use) was.
As a user, I just want to start as soon as the program is executed, and then, If I want to open another doc, template, recent, demos... , I would hit some (custom) shortcut recalling the classic startup menu. :)

Another option could be buttons on the left and a scrollable list of recent files on the right (+ "option button" for startup behaviour settings). Quick mock-up:

Yeah, I like this one best of all. Clear, easy to read and a nice balance of options.

Another +1 -- I can really quickly see where everything is here.

Not bad

Ps: is the Demo button really necessary?

Yes, cuz new users are unlikely to find the Demos buried in the Mulab menu.
Demos were quite helpful to me learning MuLab. I wish there were Demos with newer features
There should be a MuLib section to share projects, cuz people use MuLab in such different ways.

Thx for the interesting mockup Robert!
I'll research reworking the startup dialog into that direction.

Thanks for the plugin update! Would it be possible for these two bars to be foldable as well?

How do you map chords in the virtual midi keyboard (Mac)?

I added note names to the dialog but it does not trigger them
I also tried to edit the xml file but only the first note name is recognised

A complexifying thought: it might be good to add a field for the chord name, and if chords in e.g. C Major, minor etc scale could be Transposed to other tonics
