Is the core library the same for BFD3.5 and BFD3.4.5.28?

FWIW I'm back on 3.5 because some of my old projects wouldn't load after rolling back, but they all do on 3.5 (this is a different experience to a lot of people).

I haven't updated the library though, and I'm feeling like I won't given how badly the rest of this process has gone.
I'm guessing that you're exactly right that a bunch more are broken now. I never noticed it before 3.5, but I tend to be really specific with my snare sounds and probably used only a handful (less than a dozen?) in my projects. The Sleishman snares are favorites, as are a few of the Signature snares and a smattering from the Modern Drummer Snare Select and the wooden and metal expansions. These all worked fine before and now are broken in regard to the snare roll cutoffs. I have been posting to Sam at inMusic and sent him what I've posted here.

AFAICT, the buzz/drag issue is related to velocity: if the velocity of the single cutoff stroke is below the velocity of the drag stroke, it does not cutoff the buzz. If the velocity of the single stroke rises above the velocity of the drag (by a certain amount?), the cutoff works. While, in a sense, this is perfectly in line with what a rudiment chart prescribes for the "correct" way to perform a roll (note the accent on the single stroke at the end of the rolls on the chart), of course, this is not the way we always desire to perform the effect. So. I almost wonder if the "bug" wasn't something that was consciously programmed that way. This is probably doubtful, but the thought had occurred to me. FWIW.

Ah, that's interesting re: velocity, I hadn't noticed that. Thanks!

the loading time of 3.5 is much to long, it's chacking allauthorisations on startup and takes very long time, if you have much library expansions

Post

BFD3.5 most definitely not loading/authorizing offline. went back online 1st chance i got but now not loading presets/kits and missing full expansion packs after 'looking' like it might be usable for all of 4-5 days. wondering if support will have me re-download the core library, again. will send in another ticket after getting through this week but it's back to SD3 most likely for good now. just can't afford to spend this much time on a product which continues to get worse with each release from InMusic. ymmv, mine's just bad.

wonder what the difference is. I just checked, it now opens quite fast, I didn't even catch the 'checking for log-in' bit, with wifi off here. Loaded a preset from before, it loaded almost instantly.

So, solving this annoyance would seem simple. All we had to do was create a timer to check the Wi-Fi from time to time and "under the hood". We would never have to see this ridiculous screen again.

I tend to quit the browser before I go in and start work on a project. With more than one display I have three desktops I'm looking at. Desktop 1 is allowed BFD, Cubase and VE Pro (and finder/sys settings), D2 is allowed Chrome, D3 is TV. (Sometimes I forget TV is still open.) So if I'm in Cubase and click on Chrome or TV it switches desktops, so I'm aware of wifi.

However, this is a completely standard response. Do you think anything will change? Conclude for yourself...

I hope/think so, since i got emails from two different people, the first saying, that
"Please rest assured that the feedback regarding the extended loading time on startup has been taken into consideration and work towards improving and optimizing the software's loading time is being work on. It should improve with future updates to the software when they are officially ready for release."

I guess and i am pretty sure, the core lib is the same as in 3.4.5. My special problems are, 1. i could not dl the Jazz Noir expansion, i got a win (11) permission error shortly before the dl has finished. It was probably a bad idea, to install the inMusic Software Center and install BFD 3.5 over BFD 3.4.5.

2. Because of the content path setting of the Jazz Noir expansion: (Image not found) though checked authorized, i tried to dl the exp. again since i had several presets/programs missing.

After i have clicked "REMOVE ALL" in "Setup content locations..."(in BFD 3.5 standalone), renamed the folder, where all content is in (Core and expansions) on my seperate disk from "BFD Drums" to "BFD 3" everything seems to be fine. Loading time of a full Kit ca. 2 seconds.
The only bothering thing is the "checking reg." issue, each time when BFD is launched. I try to be patient. The the older BFD License Manager Version 3.0.6.22, already inMusic UK Dev. Ltd. on my older PC has a 90 days register recheck, which is ok for me.

a couple of us got 3.5 working after a lot of extra hours (large number of expansions), but not exactly confident in the stability or future direction given our experience with this release. still some outstanding issues with the new graphics, mixer routing, a couple of expansions and "checking product registration" every time you open a project. support claims it only needs to be authorized once, but neglected to confirm any deets on the new process. only companies i know of with this sort of "feature" are subscription only. the work around works for us though, as we are typically off line.

idk, have to wonder why they put so much effort into such an onerous "authorization" process as it's likely as not to drive away potential customers. kinda hard to claim "piracy" when it can be had at carpet retailer prices (there's a reason you've never seen a counterfeit euro). could make sense to improve product margins by "rolling their own" vs iLok and plenty of smaller devs seem to be doing ok with their implementation, so perhaps the dev team got stuck with it despite a lack of resident experience? maybe 3rd time is the charm (v4.0)?

Oh no!
Probably (hopefully) good for you, probably not so good for BFD users going forward…

Best of luck, Drew. I hope your new/next position is a good fit.

Thanks for all the times you helped out the community. All the best for the future.

BTW, with wifi OFF here, opening a Cubase project with BFD already in it does not trigger the 'checking log in/activations' routine if I've already done it. Today setting up drums in a new project it took about 3 seconds after initiating in the rack. But another fresh initiation will.

Hi Drew,

I hope this is a finds you in a much better place and that we will hear from you in your new endeavor(s).

However, this is a big bummer to hear as a BFD user. It is a big blow to both users and inMusic for sure. I feel this puts BFD in great jeopardy.

Wishing you the best!

Kind regards,
