the this is a better amp plugin debate is really futile we all have different tastes, but this plug is has some very useful tones and thats what is important to me....but it has crashed my system twice when I was adjusting the slider control for one of the speaker settings and it chokes when I try to make adjustments while the track is playing......a little annoying but I will just use it with "kid gloves"

I forgot to reply to Shane's comment about the other influences on the sound (other than the amp) - yes, I agree 100%
I always practice both guitar&bass playing with the dry instrument without any amplification because this way I'm more sensitive to the sound I produce with the instrument itself. And regarding compression: the dry practising also helps you to get the dynamics right at the source.
I'm a crappy&slow player but I think my tone is rather good and I think this is due to this way of practising.

Guitars & Jâââhhhzzz - the role of electric guitar in jazz is to mimic an acoustic guitar, but louder, but still being modestly shoved away in the rhythm section doing plunck plunck (finger-breaking chords) and the odd octavated solo. Amps & guitars should be set on the ultra-mellow setting, which transforms the rig into an excellent (but too soft) sine tone generator.jens wrote:I think the best rhythm-guitar work you usually find on jazz-records where the guitar is hardly compressed
Are we talking about the same guitar parts, Jens?

partly 'yes', and partly 'no' - of course there's also a lot of jazz stuff with distorted guitars...
and also you can hear many funk licks on jazz-records
- no wait - please let us call it 'fusion' - that's probably what I am rather talking about - John Godsall springs to mind - delicious rhythm-guitar work

Heheheeee... I will quote YOU on that during the next workshop I'm doing ("Hey, some weird internet ASCII character told me..."). Especially the sine tone generator part will be of interest.C00kie wrote: Amps & guitars should be set on the ultra-mellow setting, which transforms the rig into an excellent (but too soft) sine tone generator.
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

I have tried it, and it is really nice, best guitar amp simulator freebie around, for sure. Although, I don't think it is really comparable with some commercial products.
What I dont't like is that it sounds like there is speaker simulation of 12x2 speaker recorded with condenser mic from a 1-2m distance in a room that is not really dead.
I mean, it sounds like room reverb is always turned on. Some amp models on my POD sounds like that if I turn reverb knob at 12 o'clock. It would be nice if speaker simulation could be turned of so we can have a choice of using some other speaker simulator instead, and eventually make it to sound more "in your face"

You can go to cubase forums and ask HE (cortex developer) to do it for you.Vervil wrote:It would be nice if speaker simulation could be turned of so we can have a choice of using some other speaker simulator instead, and eventually make it to sound more "in your face"

I emailed HE privately and reqested this quite a while back. I explained that I wanted to use cab impulses in a convolution plugin. HE said sure - it would be simple to implement - but it hasn't surfaced yet. Might be a good idea to bring it up again.Mutant wrote:You can go to cubase forums and ask HE (cortex developer) to do it for you.Vervil wrote:It would be nice if speaker simulation could be turned of so we can have a choice of using some other speaker simulator instead, and eventually make it to sound more "in your face"

Well he does not have to do it for me, I am fine with tools I already have.Mutant wrote:You can go to cubase forums and ask HE (cortex developer) to do it for you.Vervil wrote:It would be nice if speaker simulation could be turned of so we can have a choice of using some other speaker simulator instead, and eventually make it to sound more "in your face"
I was just assuming that author of a plug-in is monitoring this thread, and participating, as is often case here at K-V-R, because he's interested in our opinions.

well, the guitar-sound is really bad(
This was not intended to be offensive or anything. I just thought it was funny and you will probably not find it fun at all

I've got a black seven-string strat-copy as well though and Cortex' hi-gain sounds can make the earth shake!

Do we get something for that? Like, free cortex downloads for everyone?
