Yeah, I don't buy Monster Cables either because of those lawsuits. I don't care how good their cables are, I'm not buying from them anymore.flugel45 wrote:I'm surprised no one has yet mentioned Monster Cable for their ridiculous lawsuits done ostensibly to "protect" their name.
As far as I'm concerned, they can have the name and it's now their reputation too.

actually I think you'll find those lawsuits were not exactly as they were reported...we went through this before and Monster cable according to those who sued them in order to pre-empt a lawsuit really didn't file that many suits, they filed requests for more time to investigate. One of the few actual lawsuits they actually filed was against Disney for Monster inc. In that case it was cut and dry, Disney should of gotten permission first but they settled out of court having admitted their err.flugel45 wrote:I'm surprised no one has yet mentioned Monster Cable for their ridiculous lawsuits done ostensibly to "protect" their name.

EDIT in case you want the linkDurango, Colo. (Ski Press)-The following is an open letter from Snow Monster President Jack Turner regarding his reported dispute with Monster Cable:
“Noel Lee, the founder and president of Monster Cable and I have been in serious but cordial discussions over the last several weeks only to discover that we have mutual interests, goals, and respect for each other’s work.
At the same time, we are both ardent defenders of our companies, trademarks, and our pride. After all, you have to be a spirited person (some would say crazy) to be an entrepreneur in the first place - even crazier to start companies like Monster Cable and Snow Monsters.
Noel and I are in agreement that there is no conflict or ill-will between Snow Monsters and Monster Cable Products - none whatsoever.
Any statements or feelings that I have expressed in the past, whether on our websites, printed correspondence, or email are resolved in a fair and honorable manner by both parties. Everyone in my family feels this way and wants you to know that:
Snow Monsters is not responsible, nor do we condone, any information published by other persons that is untrue or misleading. I learned that we may have posted links to online information that is not accurate.
I don’t have any knowledge, nor have I ever claimed that Monster Cable has filed lawsuits against hundreds of companies or filed frivolous lawsuits. Rumors about suing the Chicago Bears, the Red Sox, or Fenway Park are simply false.
The database people have referred to is a list of trademark oppositions and requests for extensions. Trademark objection is a normal process for trademark owners. It is the Patent and Trademark office that decides if the trademark is allowed. Snow Monsters and Monster Cable will be protecting and policing our marks, or we will be in danger of losing them.
And Monster Cable never sued us. We filed a complaint in Federal Court against Monster Cable and have since withdrawn it. Please research information and check facts before jumping to any conclusions about Monster Cable. Our primary concern is to spread the truth - not cloud it.
Thanks very much to all fans of Snow Monsters. This letter will be sent to as many of our friends as possible in hopes of clearing up the situation. I ask that you do the same. And please…Think Snow!”
Jack Turner, President
Well, a quick Google search came up with this:Hink wrote:actually I think you'll find those lawsuits were not exactly as they were reported...we went through this before and Monster cable according to those who sued them in order to pre-empt a lawsuit really didn't file that many suits, they filed requests for more time to investigate. The whole thing that made it public was a guy making snowboarding videos, and it was monster something. He used it to gain attention to his snowboarding video and not very well...pre-emptive lawsuits never work..... :
I have nothing more to prove...neither does monster cable...you have a site that was the first on google...I saw it too...flugel45 wrote:Well, a quick Google search came up with this:Hink wrote:actually I think you'll find those lawsuits were not exactly as they were reported...we went through this before and Monster cable according to those who sued them in order to pre-empt a lawsuit really didn't file that many suits, they filed requests for more time to investigate. There are a number of cases mentioned. Are they all bull****, or part of the conspiracy against Monster Cable? Frankly, I don't buy your characterization of Monster Cable being the victims here. Clearly, they've used strongarm tactics, and very questionable judgement in some of their attempts to "protect" their name. You say "they really didn't file that many suits". Well, from what I've read, the small companies they went after often had no choice but to cave or settle since they couldn't afford to fight 'em in court. But there are enough who are standing up to them to make me take notice and say, hey, something isn't right here...
Have you got a link to something that suggests all of these articles were wrong? (You say this was all discussed here at KVR. Well, I saw the news of the lawsuits, then the disgusted reactions afterward, but totally missed the part where it was all a mistake, so I'd appreciate that link as well).

I don't buy Monster Cable because I can't hear any difference in my rig with them vs. somewhat less expensive "non name brand" cable. Why spend what you don't need to?
Nice deflecting, but I posted the first link to make a point. If the very first link is damning to Monster Cable, what does that say about the 100th? (Clue: it's just as bad). And why should I be the one to do any research? There are numerous articles on the web that make the allegations. You claim they're mostly bunk, so the burden of proof (as they say) falls on you. If you can't deliver (or simply don't want to), then just say so. Enough deflecting.Hink wrote: I have nothing more to prove...neither does monster cable...you have a site that was the first on google...I saw it too...You did no real research and are shooting from the hip...it's cool...
BTW if you boycotted every company that did the same thing as monster you would have nothing, it's absolutely normal business...
