It's definitely their PCB faceplates. They are ugly, thin, and much cheaper to make than aluminum. They are also harder to read than bare aluminum and MN have a cheap and easy to mar flat finish. Several of mine have excessive rash already from being swapped a few times between racks. I only use hand tightened knurlies and the MN modules haven't been switched any more than my other modules. They are 100% less durable than the finish on my aluminum panels. They also don't use any pot shaft support. Yeah, I get that it's not common, but it's another flag and it's the kind of thing that I don't like.foosnark wrote: Fri May 19, 2023 5:17 pm Part of the reason for PCB faceplates is consistency. They make modules with touch controls (Rene etc.) and you cannot do that on an aluminum faceplate.
And I'm not sure what the objection to PCB faceplates is. I've never had one that was damaged except for a Mystic Circuits Portal that Eli dropped onto a concrete floor when packing it up to ship -- there was the tiniest little nick in the corner that I wouldn't have noticed if I weren't looking for it -- and he sent me a replacement panel once those were ready to ship, along with a free pair of the weird insect eye prism glasses.
But I've had brand new Doepfer modules with f**ked-up corners, and plenty of aluminum-faces modules with rack rash.
I had an aluminum panel Maths but now I only have their PCB panel version. I'm thinking of just buying a silver faced one again because I like the module. I might sell the black face one, I don't know. I won't buy any more PCB panel MN modules though.
I don't mind cutting corners, as long as you're cheap. But, if you sell yourself as a premium brand then deliver a premium product.
WMD is one of the brands at the top of my list.
