noiseboyuk wrote:I can't seem to make UVI Workstation play WAVs. It autoplays RX2 files perfectly, but just sits there doing nothing when it finds a regular (or acid) WAV. Any ideas?

Running 1.0.14 through Sonar 7.0.2, Q6600 4GB RAM - thanks for any help!
Hi,

Check the Loop tab of the Edit panel.
If the wav file do not contain any acid information, it will be loaded as stretch. In that case, there is no auto play... Still triggering the keyboard should play the sample.
If this is a real acid wav, then it should be loaded as slice, and you should be able to auto play it.

Which kind of algorithm is enabled in your case ? stretch or slice ?

Please check that you're using the 1.0.14 version too.
Older versions did not load acidified wave using the slice algorithm.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Oliver - yes, you are quite right, these files must be non-acid. I have to OK the browser, then I can play them.

However, as ttoz says, I think this is a serious omission! I have lots of non-acid loops, and I can't audition them when browsing. Also (and excuse my probable ignorance here) the non-acid wavs do not loop either - in either sample or stretch mode, they play at the original non-tempo speed and don't loop.

I like the Workstation, and I'd like to use it as a general loop player, but until the WAV support is increased it's a little impractical...

The original design underneath is that if any sample file without metric information is auto played and looped, then it will be weird for single shot and some melodic phrases, which are very common.

UVIWorkstation is not dedicated for loops, so we preferred to have an overall
good impressions even if there are some issues like that.

Imagine your snare drum, playing looped :)

We didn't want either to offer a slicing workstation for free...
You can take a look at MOTU BPM if you're looking for a powerful rhythm center.

Thanks for your support.

I tried it but found that working with the old tried and true Phatmatik Pro was better for my purposes.

Would be super cool if you did. ;)

There not the same kind of software, so best thing is indeed to take what suits your needs the best.

Yeah, UVI WS seems like a good little app though. I just couldn't figure out how it would benefit my workflow.

i think the main focus for uvi workstation is designed to be a playback plugin for the sounds you can buy at uvisoundsource.com. i am pretty sure that there are better plugins for everything else. but the sounds from them are excellent. i bought 3 different packages so far.

Exactly.
We made it free so people could try it in a non crippled version, so you can try all the features and see you don't encounter any compatibility issues.
It allows to sell small soundpack at very attractive price and you don't have to pay an entrance price to try those.

By the way, we just release a new percussion soundbank

Regarding the loop side, we found that it would be really stupid to only offer support for our own loops material, so that's why it support all kind of loops format.

We wanted to create a powerful sample player, so we put a lot of thing in there.
But, indeed, it does not read external instrument format or don't allow to slice your own material, but the reason behind this is that we already offer products with those features and don't want to compete with those.

Really nice(!), but i don't need percussions urgently at the moment unfortunately. On the other hand, i am still in need of some brilliant funky horn section that is properly playbable, hopefully with some support for the new expression maps in Cubase 5 ;-) I hope these expression/articulation maps are something in general that you are looking at for new releases (where appropriate).

I have to say, I watched those UVI tutorials a few weeks ago and I still hear that guy's voice in my head. He said "UVI Workstation" in like every second or third sentence! It was very noticeable, to me. Not subliminal at all.

Hope you guys make a lot of money, but I think the company that was contracted to do those tutorials went overboard on product name placement. Sure, it worked. I'll never forget UVI Workstation, but I imagine the hope would be that I remembered UVI Workstation fondly with no aftertaste. ;)

Like almost all your products , it appears to be of the highest quality , highest usefulness and very affordable too .

I strongly believe that the inclusion of midi files in percussion packs like this would make them enormously more appealing and successful .

Thanks Oliver - I think you're missing a trick. IMHO all you'd need is a "loop" button and the ability to auto play WAVs - no need for slicing etc. At the moment I need Sonar's Loop Explorer for WAVs - why not get all that extra custom by offering it all in one place?!

If it had these basic features I'd use it by default, and would be more likely to look into the soundpacks! Oh, and +1 for standalone's midi file comment.

Just my $0.02.... nevertheless it's certainly a nice looking product and I wish you all the best with it.

Oohhh ok.
The sample preview in the browser should be doable.

Thanks for your report.
