Working on "voice modifiers" for SynthMaster 3.1, to emulate poly analog synths better. Starting with the VAnalog Oscillator and the ADSR Envelopes, we will introduce the "vintage" knob.
Starting with the VAnalog Oscillator and the ADSR Envelopes, we will introduce the "vintage" knob.
For the VAnalog oscillator, the following parameters will have "voice modifiers": Volume, Pan, Fine Tune, Morph X, Morph Y and Symmetry
For the ADSR envelope, the following parameters will have "voice modifiers": Attack, Decay, Sustain, Release, Env Amount.
So, with "voice modifiers", each "voice" will have a different parameter value. customizeable from the Voice Modifiers Dialog. In analog poly synths, each voice is a separate circuit, and each circuit is slightly different from each other.

Very cool! So I could imitate an old Oberheim type sound, like on the OB-X?kv331 wrote: Sat Nov 09, 2024 4:16 pm Working on "voice modifiers" for SynthMaster 3.1, to emulate poly analog synths better. Starting with the VAnalog Oscillator and the ADSR Envelopes, we will introduce the "vintage" knob.

Assigning MPE (cc 74) in Live 12.1 by dragging "MPE" onto a parameter seems to not be working properly. The animation shows the parameter knob turning as it should when using cc 74 on the MPE controller, but the audio is not affected at all. For example, when assigning "MPE" to ADSR sustain or to insert FX. Also, Live 12.1 frequently crashes right after dragging and dropping "MPE" onto a parameter. However, aftertouch (polyphonic MPE Press) seems to be working perfectly.

I tried it on a different preset and "MPE" cc 74 seems to be working fine on that one. Not sure if I'm just confused or if the other preset got corrupted.Ou_Tis wrote: Sat Nov 09, 2024 7:50 pm Assigning MPE (cc 74) in Live 12.1 by dragging "MPE" onto a parameter seems to not be working properly. It's working with the KB Additive Clavi preset, but not with the KY Simple FM EP MK preset. Now every time I drag "MPE" onto "sustain" of the second ADSR in KY Simple FM EP MK it crashes Live 12.1. When I drag and drop "MPE" onto the sustain of the first ADSR in KY Simple it appears to map correctly in the mod matrix but now neither the animation nor the audio show any response.

Ctrl-click ties the segments. I though I explained that in the video tutorial. Time for a written tutorial.gussent wrote: Sat Nov 09, 2024 4:57 pm Are there any plans to add features like zooming, snapping, and tie for the VAnalog oscillator?

Hi Rob, yes that is the point. To be able to imitate sounds in poly synths like Roland Jupiter, Oberheim, or Prophet 5.Examigan wrote: Sat Nov 09, 2024 6:47 pm Very cool! So I could imitate an old Oberheim type sound, like on the OB-X?
Check out the audio samples below. It's a 2 vanalog osc + 1 state variable filter (similar to oberheim) filter sweep. There are 3 renders with 0% vintage, 50% vintage and 100% vintage settings:

What is the layer MIDI input settings? it should be set to MPE:Ou_Tis wrote: Sat Nov 09, 2024 8:07 pm

You can also set MIDI input globally:

My bad, I must have missed that detail in the video or just forgot... Thanks.
By the way, using ChatGPT to write the manual could really help and save a lot of time.

I already had the global midi input set to MPE. I tried also setting it to MPE in the Layer view you showed but that didn't help.kv331 wrote: Sun Nov 10, 2024 7:56 amWhat is the layer MIDI input settings? it should be set to MPE:Ou_Tis wrote: Sat Nov 09, 2024 8:07 pm

Dragging aftertouch onto voice volume in the KY Simple FM EP MK preset crashes Live 12 every time. I'm able to drag aftertouch onto FX layer parameters without crashing Live, and the animation shows it modulating them, but the sound does not change (and is very different from manually clicking and dragging the knobs). However I was able to drag aftertouch onto the sustain of each of the four ADSR envelopes of the KY Simple FM EP MK and that's working properly. In the mod matrix I was able to change the map of Easy 2:wave 6 detune to cc 74: wave 6 detune and that's also working, so that's a playable MPE preset with aftertouch and MPE cc74 at least, but mapping them to other parameters in this preset is extremely buggy. I don't see any obvious logic to what works or doesn't.

The 100% version sounds a bit like the Tom Sawyer sound that Rush used, but IIRC they pan the voices from left to right, and the filter envelopes are a bit more apart from each other.

Woah, this sounds really great. I'm so happy this kind of sound made its way into SM3. Great work!kv331 wrote: Sun Nov 10, 2024 7:48 am Check out the audio samples below. You can also edit the voice modifiers for the vanalog osc pan parameters:Examigan wrote: Sun Nov 10, 2024 8:33 pm Nice!

(BTW the previous sound samples were in mono, as there was a mono spectrum analyzer vst at the end of the signal chain)
Also, notice that the unison voices is set to 8, and the layer is running in mono mode. This should emulate the unison mode in Oberheim poly synths.

Thank you! Those little details achieve us getting closer to analog sound. Now the major "missing" part to get the analog sound is to improve the filters. But that's gonna happen hopefuly after we release SynthMaster 3 iOS. (We seriously need to do that, as business is NOT good at all, and we need new revenue sources to surviveHeld wrote: Sun Nov 10, 2024 9:20 pm Woah, this sounds really great.
