Hehe, for me that's part of the fun. And of course, the variety and affordability.

I was toying with the idea of a Moog Modular. But I really wouldn't know what to do with it (other than drool over the sound).

Hehehe, our dunno, hundred or so modules have cost less than a medium sizes Moog Modular 35, which contains a bunch of oscillators, a bunch of envelopes and pretty much one lonely lowpass filter, driven by not a single sequencer, which costs extra.

Ah, but having a Moog gets you bragging rights!

West coast synthesis style is a lot more intricate and you can do so much more with it. East coast is like a vulgar display of power, and that's pretty much it. :D

 It's all relative. Anyway, the long-haired general would never allow me to have something as untidy looking as a rack in the house even if I could afford one

It's Softube Modular and VCVrack for me for now.

I didn't go full Moog, but I much prefer the 5U/MU format. The one thing I would say that Euro has more of is digital based modules. And, if you made me I would store that for you :D I'm not crazy enough to not want a skiff like that. I have a couple of Euro modules, polyvoks filter that I built and that Dave Smith one and some other odds and ends that have shown up over time. So, at some point I'll get a Euro case and set them up. But, I'm an MU guy. 1/4" jacks and bigger knobs FTW!

Keep in mind that you can build pretty much anything from any format for any other format now. I'm in progress (and have been for over a year, project on hold pending a place to solder and stuff again) on a triple low pass gate in MU format. I have two of the three done and wired, life got in the way of finishing the 3rd filter. Anyhow, the point is .. even those Euro "only" modules turn up in MU from time to time and stuff like the AJH module you have are showing up in Euro. I have several Buchla and Serge based modules in MU.

I know you are just being funny .. but it's important for people to understand that this distinction/boundary is no longer important ... Here are examples of modules that I have that are from the west coast ethos.

I also have a skat talker which is more of Euro thing

What I think Euro has done is opened the mind set for digital based modules. That was kind of off limits in MU for a long time, even after the comeback. However, even that wall is being knocked down.

True! Even Buchla has adapter modules to interface with wherever.

I guess it ends up just being a matter of taste and convenience. Some people find 1/4" jacks and big knobs convenient, others like portability and stuff.

I'm curious...did the internal beta start?

Exactly, hard to believe we can actually own this stuff that used to be the realm of the synth elite.

The Pro-5 used 1/4" jacks ... there, back on topic :D

Seeing the effect that the hardware have into Urs mind, and that has been proved over the years, I hope he finally goes the Buchla/serge route so he can borrow ideas and workflow from the east coast, maybe some clones too...
Urs!, grow up! Eurorack is for kids! 4U is for real men! :clown:

We're aiming at Thursday.

(it could have started last Friday but the dev/testers were afraid toput something out over weekend without any chance to fix things quickly)

I'd love a Buchla. Can't justify the expense just yet. Not before Z3 is out.

Your all wrong, DIY is the best format for modular. (if you have the patience)

Most Affordable.. check.
Can use Euro/Buchla/Serge/Moog whatever... Check.
Can make own format with Bigger knobs, and more space around them...Check!

It has taken me quite a few years to get the synth I wanted this way, but playing an instrument with Buchla, Moog, Serge, Tiptop, Synthesis Technology modules all together makes it worth it.

(Also it wasn't that simple, even just adjusting the inputs and outputs of all the different formats so they play nicely together took a fair bit of extra time, but hey I'm a broke muso so its the only way I can get to play with such things!)
