I love the sound of the Splendid Grand instrument (originally an Akai ftp freebie). I've played a lot of other freebies (and some for-pay ones bundled with other samplers), but none have come close. The EQ and "space" particularly appeal to my ear. However, I do recorgnize the flaws in it (some panning issues, distorion in a few high end keys).

As a matter of fact, I'd even pay to replace it if there was a product that had that same sound without the glitches!

Is there already something out there that will make me happy?

In fact, as a place to start, does anyone know the actual piano model used in the Splendid Grand samples?

ISTM that if you snoop 'round the non-wav files that comprise Splendid Grand, one or more have the name of a brand (and model?) of piano embedded in. But I can't recall what. I'm thinking it might be some kind of fairly largish Steinway but my memory is notoriously unreliable.

I think it's a Kawai. But my memory... ditto!
