for those that have used (or still use) hammerhead / moonfish / tuareg / tu2 ... bram (bos) has done a simple VST host / sequencer ... not sure how good (just about to install the demo here myself) but knowing brams work its bound to be dead easy to use with a few neat little tricks up its sleeve ...

Looks exciting! I use a lot of audio, though, and it seems geared toward sequencing with MIDI. For true virtual musicians, though (not people who are virtually musicians, mind), it should be boss.

Yes,

I said "boss".

HI

I wonder if it automates panning?

Flipper.

just had a quick play ... its basic but VERY easy to use ... and BIG fun ... could be REALLY good as a quick sketchpad for rough ideas (much the same way as i use tu2 from time to time but with VST / VSTi support added too) ... bram is VERY good at functional GUI design IMHO (IIRC it was his degree thesis specialism or similar back in the day when he wrote the PUMP MIDI sequencer) ...

... youre right of course greg ... no audio recording or stuff like that but for one-shot samples and simple VST sequencing it seems like a good (entry-level but not if you get my meaning) little tool ...

... would like to see stuff like audio direct on the tracks and the variator / distotion / filter envelopes from some of brams previous apps added to this though ...

... not bad for v1.0 though ...

Pump b4 was really cool :)

AFAICT so far with my little play you can record realtime tweaking of native tunafish controls and VST parameters ... cant see a way yet (if there is one ... knowing brams philosophy probably not) of then editing that 'automation' short of deleting it and recording again ...

well tunafish seems to be a hybrid of tu2 and a refined PUMP with VST support added ...

first 'neat little trick' ive found ... the 'song' mode (a playlist by any other name) is a close-on genius (if simple ... as the best ideas often are) implementation ... kind of like a trackers pattern sequencer / playlist but done graphically ... a LOT of big sequencers could learn from this alone i reckon ...

does it sound like a virus?

ok, seriously. that looks pretty cool.

Why would anyone buy this when for a few dollars more you could get Energy XT? :?:

Simple-- because it might be exactly what somebody's looking for. ;)

I've been a big fan of Bram's stuff for years, I still break out Tu2 regularly. Been waiting to see how this would turn out. Interesting so far.

The micro mode function is a cool idea, fits the idea of this being a supplementary tool for advanced users. I really like a lot of the drag and drop, especially for drum samples. The simplicity of the thing is nice.

The sample management and manipulation is vastly reduced from Tu2, which is a pity, since that was what I used most in Tu2. Automation only seems to be available for VST params and channel volume, not pan or effect sliders. The gate is much more limited than in Tu2. Value readouts for native widgets like pan and volume would be useful. The channel strip widgets are maybe a little bit small, several times my mouse overshot and clicked back to the volume fader. The VST implementation seems straightforward. I didn't get much in the way of useful results with the patch randomizer, mind, but that's random for you.

Not bad so far. I'm happy to see someone building capable tools aimed at absolute beginners. It's hard not to be slightly jaded at some of the limitations and omissions from Tu2. But I'm getting old, jaded has become second nature. Look forward to seeing how this progresses, its functionality will really start to rise once he adds MIDI I/O (which is next on his list of feature adds).

Cheers,
Steve
