Should I sell my FL Studio XXL (Poll)

This is a quick question to find out if I should keep it or sell it.

Why should I keep it?

And 'If' I were to sell it - how much?

Of course you should keep it, sequencers are just tools, they're just elaborate canvases, once you've spent time learning to gradually dissolve that wall between you and whatever program your using to interface with the computer as if it was an extension of yourself, then their is absolutely no need to re-build that wall by adopting another host, the sequencer just doesn't have as much meaning as we sometimes think. And FL Studio is like the sequencer equivalent to the donkey that carried Jesus into town, entirely unglamorous.. but ultimately capable

Hi! kovacs - this poll is not about if I am 'allowed' to sell it or not, I am pretty sure if I 'want' to sell it I will be 'able' to sell it 'after' talking with JMC

This is more of a 'I have had this program years and seems to have a setimental value as the first ever serious host I ever got, and was directly responisble for getting me hooked on electroic music.

I have on one hand the quest to get funds to obtain tools to enhance what I need to do now, and the problem of removing by selection the tools I have that I got attached to.

It is a very capable and powerful host with much ‘hidden’ power just under the hood – however as time progresses you will find limitations imposed ‘by any host’ and it’s a balance of finding the right tool for the job if you get serious in one particular area that the host may be weak in. I am pretty sure for the bulk of use its 'more than most in the host'

I see Peter. I have the same sentiment but for some reason have problems divorcing my XXL...it's sort of where I started even if I'm not a die-hard FL fan anymore.

Err... anyway, IF you can... then I'd say about 66% of the current price? Seems to be the general going price of used software in the Marketplace?

Nar! Its been done many times before – you have to sell ‘all of the licenses you own in one go to the same user only’ ie it cannot be split up among many – so ‘if’ I were to sell it someone would be in for a right bargain imo. you also have to make sure Image Line give you the 'ok' before selling the items.

I could tell you – but it might start a host war or something , so not going to compare hosts in this thread – but indeed it is interesting to find out what fl users use once they move on from FL, ‘if’ they ever need to in the first place.

While I don't know what software (and hardware) you're going to be concentrating on, I think you'd regret selling FL Studio. One of its key advantages is its flexibility and the many ways in which it can be used. It can even operate as a DXi to VSTi adapter. It can be a VSTi, DXi and ReWire host or instrument. It's also got loads of useful tools - I love the new Fruity Slicer in v5, and use it for all my drum loops now. Plus, the lifetime free upgrades - who knows what wonders FL Studio 10 will offer.
