I am new to the Flaming Lips. I just got their Zaireeka album. If youlove surround sound or just weird stuff, you need to get this cd.

There are 4 discs that you need to start at the same time in 4 different cd players. I am using just the first 2 now, and I am amazed. Half the sounds are coming from my living room, half on my computer in the dining room. Screams are going back and forth from 2 rooms.

I can't remember being this stupidly giddy listening to something. I might might mix it all together in FL Studio or something, but that will probably ruin the effect.

Are there any other great, daring, experimental bands I am missing out on?

flaming lips do indeed rule!
there are many, maybe not as far gone as the lips but they do exist.

That is a really cool Lips album. I put all the stereos in my house in the corners of one room to listen when I first got it. It's a very creative idea, but not one thats practical all the time. Just the single disc is cool too though.

As for other experimental stuff in a similar vein, I would suggest The Olivia Tremor Control. Lots of interesting sonic textures and tape manipulation. There are many others too, but they would probably be a good start.

Yeah I made a mix down of Zaireeka in Sonar a while back, it was fun to do, I did a lot of automation and stuff to keep things interesting and keep the focus where I wanted it instead of just lining them all up and playing them at the same volume. Funny thing though, the Lips intentionally made this where it's never in sync even if you do this.
I'm sorry this post wasn't about techno.

I got to see Olivia Tremor Control (through a friend's insistence) at All Tomorrow's Parties in April. It was one of their last (or was it their last?) gigs ever. Unfortunately, only about 100 people, if that, turned up to see them. They were great though. The saw player recognised my friend who'd been at the front of their last few gigs. He told us to go to their chalet later, but we couldn't find it. :dog:

Yup OTC come highly recommended. I haven't heard any of their stuff on record yet, but if they ever start doing gigs again, go.

I saw them two years ago in Atlanta and it was great. The albums are reall good too. Dusk at a Cubist Castle is the first and it is way cool if a little lofi. Black Foliage is just awesome for fun experimental sounds.
