Yeah, just got here and looked around and was like WHOA! nice place.

Anyway, me being a newbie with this stuff and all, so, spare me the spanking. :D

So, on to the problem, I'm trying to record my band's demo at home and the trouble is that I want to have sort of like vocal harmonies for some songs. As always, my singer can't reach that high so naff.

I've tried pitch shifter but it sounded like robotish. So can anyone give me some ideas on what to do?

Currently, I'm using Adobe Audition 1.5.

Oh, and thanks in advance. :D

Try the Castrator VST. Comes with free scalpel presets.

Erm, sorry for my stupidity but I've searched here and couldnt find it. :?

he made a joke....

best thing would be to simply sing some lines and edit out what you don't like

oh and if you gotta have high harmony vox... why not ask a girl if she wants to join the club

Post

TEN REASONS why it's good to have a girl in the band:

1. well when the groupies bring along their big and angry boyfriends she can distract them a bit...
2. erm... well.... actually....

no just this one reason I can think of

and don't get me wrong.... this is the only reason that makes her BETTER than another guy.... not the only reason to have her in the band at all

Post

you could try a couple things:
1 is record a take singing as close to the unreachable high note as possible, then use a pitch shifter to get that extra step or two there,
or
2 maybe drop the song down a couple steps so it's in the singer's natural vocal range?

if you're doing like 3 piece harmonies a single layer that has been pitch shifted should not be THAT noticeable if you do it with care.

with voice I would always try to do the harmonies yourself....

honestly.... harmonizers and such can be a cool effect sometimes... but you don't wanna use it every time to fake a harmony vox....

just let the singer fall into his Kopfstimme (Headvoice?) when he doesn't reach certain points....

it can sound quite nice

Post

That does sound a lot better than harmonizers do, even when the head voice on it's own sounds weird. Example of the headvoice solution here, both by the same singer.
