Hello,

I'd like to start running some VSTi's live (elektrik piano, b4, minimoog V) with my Powerbook setup. I'm using an M-audio Keystation Pro 88 with a Firewire 410 interface.

My goal is to efficiently run these VSTi's in a live setting. My ultimate goal would be to be able to use my Keystation controller to switch between the VSTi's on the spot, using the same controller...or being able to hook up another controller and run 2 VSTi's at once.

As you can see, I'm fairly new to the midi/vsti world for the live situation...my live rig previously consisted of using a Kurzweil PCx88 keyboard for my sounds, but I much prefer the tones I'm hearing out of these VSTi's lately.

Which host would you recommend for me?

Thanks!

I suggest chainer.
I have used only vsti instrument in over 20 concerts. It works fine. Not a single crash.

As far as i know it is not possible to switch VSTi instruments automatically, but you can assign each to its own midi-channel, and just change midi channel from your keyboard.

Program-change messages works like a dream. Only too bad that almost all modern controllers like edirol, M-audio and CME dont have dedicated buttons for program change. It would be nice with 8x8 (64 in all) buttons for program change. In fact my old D50 is a better controller than the much newer Ozone. Ozone need 5 keystrokes to send program change. Whith D50 it is one keystroke. Ok the new ones is good for controllers, but for most of my patches knob tweaking is automated with LFOs so that I can focus on playing. But I guess the developers are making keyboards for home use, and not stage use.

Good luck!
