I am running Edirol orchestral VST through minihost(toybear) with an external MIDI keyboard(casio cz-1000)as the trigger. My computer has an audigy 2 ex(6.1) however the keyboard in minihost gives a much richer fuller sound compared to my external midi keyboard which plays the sounds flatter and less able. My friend also has this same problem, however he is using a soundblaster live with the KX drivers and a DX9 synth as the trigger. I tried running edirol through cubasis and same problem-why is this so?Is my keyboard too old to give the same rich sound that the minihost keyboard does, do i need to get a USB keyboard to alleviate this problem?please help

Could this be related to velocity?

Post

Surely it's related to velocity. If your keyboard is like the one I was using, not matter how hard you nail it, you're simply not getting very hard velocities. You think you're whamming on the keys, but only getting for example, a velocity of "80".

In Minihost, you're probably getting either velocity at max, or at least you're able to hit those 110+ velocities.

so what do i do?is there a way to change the velocity of the external keyboard through minihost?or do i need to buy a new MIDI keyboard?

Post

It depends on your keyboard and it depends on minihost. Some keyboards will let you adjust the velocity response curve, but I doubt yours is one of those.

I don't use Minihost, so I don't know if you can use it to adjust your velocity response curve or not.
