Can someone explain to me how these work at install?
Say I have a registered copy of ST2, which I'll have in about a week or so. If I buy a copy of Sonik Synth 2 crossgrade from Esoundz, say, what do I need to have to register it? Does it just look for a verified and registered copy of ST2 or Philharmonik and then just install? Or is it more complex than that?

The process will be no different from how it was when you registered ST2. IK's website is set up so that someone cannot register an upgrade or crossgrade if they haven't registered the product from which they are upgrading or crossgrading.
But if you have registered the product that you are upgrading or crossgrading from, all you do is follow the same challenge/response procedure as you did for the original product that you registered.

It is simple to buy the crossgrade on www.esoundz.com, you just buy it like you would any other product. The key is that you have to have the qualifying product registered FIRST for the crossgrade to be authorized. I have to say that this is the best part of the whole challenge-response thing. The fact that everyone who uses it has to be registered makes it easy to qualify for lots of further discounts on upgrades and crossgrades without having the reseller or buyer have to jump through hoops (ie. proof of purcahse, saving receipts, cutting out coupon/rebates etc.).
