what's up? i make 3 posts in the cafe and get around 50 views each over a couple of days. i post one that falsely claims it contains industrial ambient and i get over 500 views in a couple of hours. (however, still no downloads or reviews

).

who are you ppl? do you post much? can you tell me why you love industrial and/or ambient?

I don't know about anyone else, but I hit my browser refresh a couple of hundred times on your thread just to give you a few extra views that you seemed to want. My ears are tired at the moment, so I haven't actually listened to any music in a couple of hours, so no post.

It reminds us of the music from our home planet which is an ancestral memory that is emdebbed into our DNA... that and every other genre of music sucks ass.

Well, separately they are each kinda bland. However if you mix them together it's pretty cool. Kinda like peanut butter in your chocolate...

it's not just kvr

if i put an industrial kit against the typical ambient/melodic IDM I do and post at soundclick I get a lot more comments and listens than if there's some other sort of kit against a somewhat similar structure

i quit posting music at kvr cause I didn't have enough time/energy to maintain the proper polite reciprocity with other music posters here as well as some other forums. I just need and have found a few people here and there to keep me going.

shit man, i can't quite follow what yer sayin. maybe i'm thick. i do understand about not postin at the cafe. i thought i was bringin some fresh jam, some uplifting, mind tinglin, in yer face melodies. but, ppl seem to not want it. i've listened to many, many, many tunes in the cafe and have had nothing good to say about 99% of them. on the rare occasions i'd post, it was about how the writer needed to wake up and get out of their depressin dronin rut. this little experiment has opened my eyes as to how much an outsider i am here. i'm thinkin mixposure

Here's some irony for you, Andy:

A LOT of us here are probably in the same boat-- for example, my 3 tracks that I've shared here have been:

1. A rap song
2. An 80's rock song
3. A country song

I had to beg for listens, but I did get a few at least.

The ironic part-- if there are a lot of us in a similar situation, then you're not an outsider after all!

I have to admit, I don't listen to the Cafe as much as I'd like. I usually peek in when I see the word "guitar", "soul", "vocal", "pop", "rock", or other non-electronica-specific terms. I tend to avoid "New Ambient Soundscape" and "Industrial Sprocket-core" (or whatever). THough, I admit that I have recently developed a bit of an enjoyment of glitchy music (which is becoming passe just as I'm getting into it!) so I might be tempted to check out "Glitchy Ambient Sprocket-core with Pop Vocal"

i've noticed a tendency on a number of boards, that there is just so much to listen to that new entries tend to be ignored because the regulars are already busy enough keeping up with the folks and genres that they're familiar with.

it's odd when you consider that we all want more time to make music which may mean less time to listen to it. fortunately there are usually a few on each board that make an effort to listen. i think that's one of the nice touches at the the auditorium, the moderators leave some useful comments.

That thread with your father's music did really well, though.

As for the ambient world, I don't think that it's a surprise that small, fanatical sub-cultures based around music made with electronics/computers will likely be the one's most viewed at a place that requires a computer to access.

You also have to figure, people who are in to stuff like ambient don't have access to listen to any of it without taking an active role in seeking it out. Pop/rock/dance is every where, even if it takes some dedication to find good examples of it.

And when it comes to a place like the cafe, there are regulars. And they tend to congregate in small likeminded groups. There are your core breakbeat listeners, your core ambient listeners, your core jangle-pop listeners, and so on.

It also doesn't hurt to be a good host in your own thread. You want people to listen, give them a reason to. Make it obvious to them waht they are going to listen. Don't be an ass to people who reply. Etc. General rules of encouraging others to participate, really.

And, in androidlove's case, stop staring at your navel all the time. How many times do you point out to us around here just how different/outsider you are from us and the rest of the world? What, like once a week?

would it also be fair to say that the ambient stuff is of a higher quality in respect to its genre than some of the other stuff is w/ respect to its genre?

inotherwords, the ambient is bettern ambient than the pop is pop? (still no excuse -there is some great pop around here, although it does sound more on the "folksy" side.)

If that's the case, I think it would suggest that the ambient folk have lower standards overall.

Oh, I didn't mean that at all.
I know what to listen to in Pop music, and unfortunately, that often times reflects production more than composition. i don't know the ambient genre at all and was thinking it was a higher quality of ambience (TM)here (just in case Bose is reading this).

I think though, it probably has most to do with the self-assembly of an electronic community.
