Hi,

I'm just wondering if there are any hosts for the Mac that are comperable in features and/or usability to FLStudio.

My pc is pissing me off, and I'm just looking to explore my options for when I next upgrade.

Thanks.

I say go for Ableton Live. :) I use it on both Mac and PC and it works very well on both...and makes you platform independent (well, almost...it doesn't run on Linux yet).

I don't think that Ableton is very similar to FL Studio but it is quite good. It's my main music app.

Reason or Bidule for the overall studio approach; GURU or iDrum for FL-like drum programming.
This account is dormant, I am no longer employed by FXpansion / ROLI.

Find me on LinkedIn or elsewhere if you need to get in touch.

Thanks John.. I had tried the Live demo when 4 came out, and I thought it was pretty neat. I'll take another look at it.

Angus: Thanks as well.. I'll try out some demos for those too.

Reason is definitely not comparable considering it is not a host...

It's worth mentioning that ReBirth is now a free program and I think cross-platform. http://www.rebirthmuseum.com/

Sorry about your PC problems. Rather than go over a Mac why not upgrade your PC? Especially if you like FLS. I assure you that there is nothing on the Mac that even comes close to FL Studio.

You would be using less money on a new very good pcsetup than a new simple mac..

It's not that I'm thinking of going to Mac just because of my recent PC problems.. I wanted to switch for a while. I have a Powerbook, and I love this thing, so I'm contemplating getting a Mac desktop as well.

The only things keeping me from commiting to getting a Mac next time I upgrade right now are FLStudio, and games.. and I don't mind missing out on the games.

My PC is pretty well spec'd right now (P4 2.4, 2gigs ram, GForce 6800GT), but I'm completely sick and tired with dealing with firewalls, spyware blockers, virus scanners and all that crap. I sounds rediculous, but I really don't trust the security on my pc. Right now, I can't even get on the internet anymore with my PC - I got an update for ZoneAlarm, and now my pc reboots whenever I open Firefox (or IE).. grrr. I hate these kinds of problems, and I've yet to experience anything like that with my Mac. Plus, I have long standign beef with Windows in general.

Anyway.. a mini-rant later.. thanks for the advice.

I have used my powerbook 1Ghz G4 for music making for a while when I travel and it's a great machine (needs lots of ram though).

I have run Reason, Live 4+5, and Apple Soundtrack on it, as well as Absynth and the BFD demo (which it handle extremely well).

I wouldn't invest in a brand new PB at the moment though - I'd wait until spring to see what happens with the Macintel thing.

Well I hoping that the Mactel machines will let me dualboot Windows onto them.. if so, then I'll get one for sure (which won't be till late next year anyway)... so at least I'll be able to use it when I need it. I'm going to wait and see.

Suggestion: Keep the PC, take it off the internet, pull out ZoneAlarm, Spybot, NAV, etc. If you need to move something to it, use a USB memory dongle. Use this machine for FLS to your heart's content.

Then get the Mac you want for internet work. Don't worry about the music stuff, your beloved FLS is on the PC, safe from hackers.

I think Logic does. Get that if you are making beats or dance music. It is the most popular software for it.
