would you like that?

it could be good for collaborations and remixes
to save time and disk space, OGG quality is a little better than mp3 and also patent free,

please check this beta,

http://www.liqihsynth.com/examples/NUSo ... n_beta.zip

it loads as synth in Windows VST,
demo OGG file included,

looking forward to your feedback

ciao

index of main files in this distribution:

1) NUSofting_VSTPLOOGGin_beta.dll (compare file date for version)

VSTi for Windows OS

This plugin is meant as a "time and disk space saver" tool,
allowing to stream from disk stereo OGG encoded audio files
in a VST environment. This should be usefull for musical
collaborations and ambient music when very large audio files
are needed, E.G. long field recordings.

VSTPLOOGGin can be controlled both from the GUI
and by MIDI notes messages. The GUI switches are master controls
over MIDI messages.

You can load stereo OGG files both by Drag'n'Drop and file dialog.

TO DO:

File path of the dropped file is not saved on VST Host close.

for questions or to report bugs and requests please write to nusofting@liqihsynth.com

I'd be also very happy to know and listen to projects which
use it, please let me know

2) oggdropXPd.exe

Drag'n'Drop OGG encoder decoder by John Edwards

No installation required,
double click on oggdropXPd.exe to launch it,
right click on its small windows for options and info.

TThat's a cool idea. If you aim towards using this as a collaboration tool, maybe you could include the ability to encode an ogg file as well?

Post

I like the idea! Tracktion already has OGG support, but if I could get people to use the PLOGGin in other hosts for collaboration, my life would be happier and easier.

Also, until Tracktion adds easier OGG export of individual tracks or project renders, an encoding tool would be handy for me. Import not so much, but encoding yes.

Great thinking, though, Luisi.

or you could go one better an support .mpc (musepack) format. Perfect CD quality at 160 kbps..
listen to my tunes here:

or maybe the ape format (monkeyaudio)

shrinks wav nice and has superb sound quality.

or maybe you can make it for all the different formats,
that one can choose which he wants ;-)

I know it might be a bit difficult, but ...
sound is vibration, vibration is life

thanks Greg and glurgle,

but I don't get the concern about encoding,
there are some wonderfull free encoders,
now I included one free, easy and beautiful
made by John Edwards, try that,

VSTPLOOGGin is made to stream OGGs from disk
inside your VST sequencer, IMHO there are many uses for that,

I will check that and APE, so far FLAC for lossless is my favourite,

but with OGG at 128kbs you loose just about 6% of the quality, quite accepable for on-line
collaborations where the size matters, about 1/10
