originality
Is it very important to you or do you feel like everything has been done anyway and you rather focus on beauty no matter if its a very cliché beauty?
It often struck me how there still are very simple tone combination that I haven't heard done before. Intervals (tone combinations) with a 5 octave clavier really gives a possible combinations outcome of 60 square 60 (am I right or is this to simple thinking or simply false?) which I could calculate but is simply a shipload of tones and if I add the time spectrum and the sequence in general the output is very simply reasonably limitless (ok there's a limit but you will not find it quick) add pitch and the possibilities in the tone spectrum are infinite. I haven't even mentioned the rhythmic structures you could fit in a time spectrum. Of course people are very much slaves of coincidence and culturally determined memetic programmed musical habits as wel as pre defined structures given by the limits of an instruments even if that limit would be the natural work flow in a daw. But I just wondered if you even considered the above? At times I did and when I did and started to make music it didn't even make sense to myself anymore and I found no reason to even let others hear it. When I listen back to other tracks I did they simply sounded to "boxed" or to "pre-defined"
I think I do find it important to be original but yet fail to be. How about you?

Hmmm....how do I reply...
originality is key, in my book!
I don't see any lack of that in you.
Myself, I strive for originality...which makes for a diverse fusion...

Originality is misunderstood by most people. They think that it means bringing something new into the world, but this is bullshit.
True originality is bringing something new into yourself. Pushing yourself into territories you've never explored. Taking roads you've never taken before.
Case in example: The recent Nine Inch Nails album. Very poppy, very "polished" in terms of production...very catchy. Very misunderstood by a lot of fans. They're all like "Wow! This is really shit! Unoriginal toss!"
But I think compared to earlier NiN it's their most original stuff.
Originality on a global scale does not exist, never has in my opinion. Originality within your own soul however, that is the key to being a great artist. Possibly not a successful artist, but great all the same.

I like to make music (etc.), it tends to be original, I like it that way. I value originality, but plain ole quality satisfies the listener in me just as well - just takes some more effort.

Well I'm not so special to expect anything I do will be completely original... after all I listen to music I like and am heavily influenced by this kind of stuff....
don't get me wrong I'm not trying to copy what I like but I'm not saying the influences are not hearable in my music either....
so I guess I don't give a f**k about originality....
the things I wanna express have been expressed many times (as have the feelings I felt been felt by thousands of people before me)
but still I wanna create something own... so well what I'm trying to say is
I HAVE ABSOLUETLY NO IDEA

I'm not using loops though (normaly) or sample from other peoples music.... I don't even use the BFD groove librarian cuz it feels a bit like cheating to me
it's cool to jam to it though

from your reaction i think you misunderstand irony.
the point not that i want to explain it is he says in a thread about originality "hasnt this been done before"
its not actually important whether it has or not the ironly is inherent in the facts above.
also there are no priveleges to being any kind of member,it just means you been here longer
