Does anything take as long to open up as Cubase???

Something I miss about Sonar is being able to sit down with an idea, and *BOOM* - one second later, the interface is open and I can start making music.
But Cubase takes ages to load, a la Photoshop. Is Logic as bad? Is anything as slow at opening?
Just curious.

it depends with FL, if I have a template with vsampler and my kit it takes about two minutes to open, much shorter with vsampler for bass and DFH superior....AA opens fast but can be time consuming when loading a project, especially those with locked tracks...eXT is like FL only maybe a little faster as is sonar if you use a hefty template...I figure most apps must be the same and it depends on how much is loading...

One word, energyXT.
Photoshop get heavier and heavier, both to load and in use. Same with the bloated audio hosts.
There's really nothing that kills creativity and drive more than heavy set apps.
Alot of apps lately, not only audio, apps that have been regarded as stable and fast, are now sluggish and bug ridden. I dunno if its cuz of more java or .NET coding, but developers are moving in the wrong direction.

Interesting...what I meant specifically is loading time - no template, no song. Just to get to a blank Cubase takes about 10-30 seconds (depending on the weather) whereas Sonar simple OPENS within 1 second. Too bad you can't tell Cubase to not scan loaded plugs or something.
That reminds me: I just installed a wonderful app that tells Adobe Reader to not load any of its bullshit plug-ins, so PDF files open instantly. For all you musicians who are sick of seeing that gymnast for 45 seconds, install this!

Anyone remember Sonic Foundry vs new Sony apps? I simply can't use Sound Forge anymore, it's so bloated!

If you never close it, you'll never have to wait for it to open.

I don´t know why it take that long to open up maybe one of the reasons is the Steinberg key/dongle?
Any opinions?

Wow! 10 - 30 seconds! Those foolish Steinberg programmers oughta be rounded up and shot!bduffy wrote:Cubase takes about 10-30 seconds (depending on the weather)
And the fact that you gotta double-click on a project file to open it! What a waste of time!

yeah, i remember loving that about sonar when i still had it. tracktion takes a little time even though i have it set not to scan plugins, but it's still within 10 seconds. the demo of energy-xt i have surprised me because it was so fast the first time i opened it i waited another 15 seconds or so cuz i figured it was still loading. i gotta get around to getting the license for that. i mean damn, it might even be faster than loading notepad.
i remember having my apple 2gs back in the day and loading up "test drive 2: the duel." the title screen would appear after 5 minutes and the main screen after another 5. i'm sure others have worse stories. like lunch money said, things have changed if we're complaining about less than 30 seconds.

Dude there is something wrong with your configuration.
Blank templates (that built in Cubase) takes about 1.sec to load here.
My template with lot of VSTis can take up to 5.sec.
My overall project with few z3ta synths, few (two)VAZ modular synths, few embracers and a lot of plugs can take up to 10.sec.
SX 3.1 here. Pentium 4 3,0Ghz.
With SX 2.2 on another comp. situation is maybe 5% slower. Sometimes same

Energy XT is the fastest starting sequencer I've ever seen. 1 second tops.bduffy wrote:Something I miss about Sonar is being able to sit down with an idea, and *BOOM* - one second later, the interface is open and I can start making music.

Tracktion is the slowest I've ever used. It takes a long time even with plug-in scans off. But I feel its worth it once it gets goin
