Will SIR allow 'stealing' of an average spectrum from a song

In my work in automotive sound quality, I often take the time averaged spectrum from two different vehicles in the same operating condition, and I'll subtract one spectrum from the other and make an FIR filter out of that.

When applying the FIR filter to the quieter sound, it will often make it sound very much like the louder sound, if the same type engine was used in both vehicles.

I know I saw a Craig Anderton article on how to do this in EQ magazine several months ago, and I didn't keep the article and can't find a reference online.

Does anybody make a plugin that calculates out a time averaged FFT spectrum as a reference from a 'source' and 'target' file, then offer perhaps an off-line FIR filtering process to impart the spectrum of the target file onto the source file?

Freebie plugins or processes (I would prefer off-line actually) preferred of course.

:-o  :? You actually mean that this is possible with Sir, well anything is possible nowadays.

Sorry I think I misunderstood what you where saying.

no helpful input, not- the Rockstar, but your job sounds pretty cool to this greasemonkey!

I think I understand your Question now, and I think the Answers, is No Sir Can`t Do This, Maybe Harbal And Firium Might be the answer, But I can not be entirely sure about this.

No I do not think I know what answer I should bring you :? Maybe you are using to many difficult words, my English is lacking some depth.

I just noticed this : No Sir Can`t Do This

I think I said my English was bad.

Not a problem. I think I can probably do this off-line in Matlab, but I'm not sure.

I mean no SIR can`t do this

Ok sorry I could not be of any help, Rockstar_not, But at least I tried standing :hihi:

Not quiet sure if I got what you mean, but is it that what Freefilter from Steinberg or TC's Assimilator do? They analyse the frequencey spectrum of a source and apply it to a target. The result is to obtain a new target with equal frequency response as source...

To get it work with SIR, problem is to get an impulse response (time domain) of the difference you built (frequency domain)... No idea how to make this, but if you already got a FIR Filter then you should be able to get the IR behind of it for use in SIR...

YES - that is the article!!!!

OK, now I know what software I might need to buy to try this out. Thanks for finding it. I was unsuccessful.

SIR does not look like the ticket for this.

Actually, it looks like I may have a solution right under my nose - GoldWave.

See here: http://www.goldwave.com/features.php

Look at the noise reduction section - it's possible to perhaps use that - I'll have to give it a whirl.

Has anyone done spectral matching with EAS Firium?
