Does anyone know whats the best generators or vsti's for producing techno?

Post

Any synth, really. That is the main thing most synths are created for, and the presets show it. I'd go with synth 1 (which is freeware), and then d/l Rebirth because it is free now (808/909 drums and all that). That should get yuou started.

and you can try Asynth and Superwave P8,
and some odo synths
and lots more
just search the freeware vst synths to get started

get a free filter plugin and a free delay and a free reverb and some inspiration ;-)

For the sake of civilisation and western culture rethink your ambition to write 'techno'. Well, unless you choose modern jazz instead, in which case please go ahead.

i've been told that OnePingOnly...

Any synth actually wont do . First get FXpansion Dr-005,
then if u have some money get reFX Vanguard ( most
versatile synth for dance music with high
features/ease of use ratio), or if its in your money limit Novation V-station. On free side, get polyIblit
and get Steinberg VB-1. While later suck in sounding
anything near bass guitar its great ( absolutly gerat)
for low tech bass thats actually usable in track, unlike
all that pseudo moog farting that rest of va call bass
in their presets. Just do it like this : get some thumpey
bass from VB-1, record it, shave off highs and some mids
by your personal taste in editor, and put those samples
in dr-005. Next thing, be prepared to learn a lot about
compresion and limiting, dance music is about tigh low
end. And finally , be in constant hunt for samples ,
specially drums and drum loops. And, usually, if u dont
know now to make it behave nice, plain 909 kick wont
get u far. Kick and bass production is , +- , very
foundation of any dance genre.
And most importantly, techno is very vague term nowdays.
What style exactly are u interested in ?

Oh also get Loftsoft FM heaven and sample it. Lot of
tech bass is fm based .

and for the sake of humanity preching should be
performed by preachers , let alone minding your own
buisness

technotechnotechnotechno! What's wrong with it? unless you're confusing it with "rave". There is such a thing as intelligent techno...

Most synths will do fine. FL's 3xOsc and TS-404 are good candidates. If you use Live and have Operator, that can make some good sounds too. On the VST plug side, if you can spend the money, Vanguard is VERY nice because it takes away all the work of layering endlessly, and comes with a cool trance gate thing. If you have Reason, reWire it into your host and use one of the many sw33t presets for the subtractor or mäelstrom. Muon Tau is also nice for leads and basslines.

Of course, you can also wait for my ReverseSynth :P

rave is so much better than techno, but rave sucks too. actually all this electronic garbage is on the way out.

huh? I thought (a) "rave" was a place/event/happening.
Is it now considered a music genre?

well "rave" was a particularly dreadful and moronic kind of dance music (usually played at raves) incorporating that horrible hoover sound, which was as ubiquitous as dogshit and fashionable in about 1989 - in the UK at least. It was also mistakenly referred to as "techno" (especially in the US) and to some people that's what they mean by the word...
