alter the character

is there any effect with u can alter the character of a sound, so not to drastic but noticeable? i get good results with eq comp amp chorus but is there a plug made for what i want. i mean i actually got no idea how this could be made, but thats pretty much with all the plug ins here, so may be one knows!

There actually is a plugin called character for the tc powercore platform designed with what you desire in mind.
You could also try something like Camel Phat used subtly,employing eq,compression,filtering and modulation to alter the timbre.
