i'm wondering if anyone knows how to get around the difficult task of making mp3 loops?
everytime you chop them the file format finds a way of making spaces in the beginning or end of the loop
so annoying!!!

You cannot make exact cuts in MP3 files, since MP3 works in blocks of about 1000 samples. So each cut you make will get a gap of 500 samples (11ms) average.
Better convert to WAV, and do edits on that version. Sample-accurate looping, yahee !!

thanks. but when you make your edits on the wave version and export to mp3, you have the same problem. the loop is kyboshed again

Simple solution: Use OGG instead. Better quality at same size, no looping problems.

sorry. let me elaborate. i'm working with Actionscript and Swishmax to create a music engine. It is a requirement that i have my soundfiles prepared in mp3 before i plunk them into my applet

It doesn't matter how much you elaborate
As C00kie says, you can't make perfect looping MP3s

it does matter for me to elaborate cause they were giving me good suggestions, but ones that werent feasible for my situation. there's got to be a way to do it maybe a wave editor of some sort that manages this process a little easier.

Sorry Mr Tunes, but MP3 isn't a gapless format by nature. Every time you create an MP3 there will always be a small gap at the beginning/end of the file. The only lossy compressed format capable of non-gapless encoding (to my knowledge) is Ogg. A google search for gapless mp3 should tell you all you need to know, since it's a pretty common peeve.
Apparently the LAME mp3 codec has implemented some sort of hack which allows for pseudo-gapless playback on compatible decoders, but I've no idea if the 2 programs you mention have this facility.

The last WMA encoders are gapless and SwishMax supports WMA if I remember well.
No?

no, one of the devs told me today that the only two formats swishmax supports is wave and mp3 because that's what the macromedia standard supports. so they could implement ogg or wma in the program but it would be redundant cause it has to get converted to one of these formats eventually anyways.n-04:05:03:05:7 wrote:The last WMA encoders are gapless and SwishMax supports WMA if I remember well.

typically swishmax will take your wave loop and render it to mp3 flawlessly but not in the project i am doing.
