Hi,
I'm just going through the tutorials here and looking to get Live possibly. One thing i cant seem to figure out is how to assign a midi port to a track which may not be the right way to phrase that. I have my keystation, but i also have maple midi as input/output devices - i'd like to have a track output to a different midi divice, and another track input from a another midi device - on different ports.
All i see here is the channel selector and the preferences tab to enable these things - not really familiar enough to go beyond that.
thanks
steve

If you're using vsts, just drag it over and drop; Live will automatically assign it to a midi track. You don't really have to do anything to the keystation (other than connect a midi cable.sghoughton wrote:Hi,

I'm not exactly sure of what your asking, but that could be due to my lack of sleep at the moment..

Ok heres the situation as its done in Tracktion. I'm using Symphonic Choirs - it wordbuilder tool has an input midi port and an output midi port. It uses 5 separate midi channels so its nice to keep on its own ports.
So in tracktion, i set one track to output to maple midi out: Port 2. The word builder tool accepts on port 2 and outputs to port 3 - i then set another track in tracktion to be driven by maple midi in: port 3 and that ends up driving the symphonic choirs on that track (which is a Kompakt instrument).
This is what i'm trying to set up in LIve.
thanks

Turn on the Input/Output view option... Then you can play with the In and Out of a track and route the midi signal to your liking...
One thing Live can't do, as far as i know tho, is to send tracks to different midi channels... but I don't think you need this for what you are trying to do

You can receive from different channels. Which CAN be the same as sending one to many.DELUDE wrote:Turn on the Input/Output view option... Then you can play with the In and Out of a track and route the midi signal to your liking...

You can send to different channels very easily (I do it all the time).
On the Midi track, you choose the output and then underneath that there is a dropdown box which allows you to choose the channel to output to.
For example, I have a sampler on channel 11 and a drum machine on 10. I can choose which instrument I want to send to by choosing the channel.

First check that all your MIDI options are enabled correctly in Options > Preferences > MIDI tab.
Then make sure the routing options are open in the console in Session View. By default I don't think the routing panel is open in the demo. To open it, click on the various tabs on the right hand side of the screen next to the master strip.
Once the routing options are open you can easily select any of the inputs you have enabled.
You can, as other have said, also route one MIDI track to another... or several. The easiest way to do this is NOT to re-route the output of the MIDI track itself, but to select the MIDI track(s) where you want the input to be routed.
I hope this all helps.
