The many effects and CPU hungry VSTs are keeping me from finishing songs. Are these a good solution?
which is better; powercore or UAD-1?
Can you add your own FX to it too?
or would it be better to just run your own custom collection of FX on another computer? What would you recommend to do this?
What is the best solution for resolving latency from effects?

I did a lot of research , meaning a lot of e-mails to both UA and POCO technical people regarding the latency issue.
They both don't want to go there with numbers because it is system dependent but the UAD is the clear winner here.
I currently run at 1.4ms on my sound card. (not easy to do)
Each "run" to the UAD card adds twice the latency of the sound card.
So if I add Plate140 to my live guitar I get 4.2ms latency.
If I add a compressor as well I get 1.4 + 2.8 + 2.8= 7ms.
"Combo plugs" like Nigel and channel strip got only one hit regardless of how many FX we use.
So Nigel is always 4.2ms.
I have begged UA to create some sort of "combo plug bank" where you decide what FX will come after what then just use one "combo FX" so you send the sound to the card once and my latency will be 4.2ms no matter what.
They told me this is in planning but we won't see it anytime soon because "there is no demand for it".
So please, e-mail UA and tell them you want this feature as well.
The more people ask for it, the better chance we will have to see this sooner.

What do you mean?Adambomb337 wrote: Can you add your own FX to it too?
You can NOT run VST's on the DSP cards, only the plugs specially written for the card.

Latency ? , i use a TC powercore firewire and 2X UAD-1 & latency has never been an issue for me.
i visit the UAD-1 forum regular , theres thousands of users yet ive never seen anybody complain about latency.
As i own both i can honestly say if you took away the powercore from me i wouldn't bat an eyelid , but if you took away my UAD-1's that would gut me that much i'd pack in making music.
The UAD-1 is by far the better card i love the plugins and simple to install and never had any problems.
The powercore i was dissopointed with some of the plugins and was a bitch to get working correctly i had to buy a new PC in the end just to get the thing going.
some will advise you to not bother with a UAD-1 and just go native , well remember there ain't no native plugins outhere that can top UAD-1 plugins.
Also on my 2 UAD-1's i can run about 15 plugins ranging from compressors/limiters/Plate 140 reverbs/Roland dimention D etc now those 15 plugins would put a hell of a strain on even the best PC's outhere today Yet ive still got a P4 3.2 /2GB memory to run my hungry minimonsta's and reaktor 5's.

yes you can freeze them , you just treat them like any other VST plugin.lesha wrote:is it possible to freeze uad plugins in cubase, for example ?

I think so. I don't use freeze but since SX2, the UAD-1 plugins have worked just like any other VST plugin.lesha wrote:is it possible to freeze uad plugins in cubase, for example ?
I wouldn't be without mine btw (UAD-1)
