I noticed they tech21nyc used the Yamaha - Pacifica-120-S as their standard guitar.
Can't seem to locate that here in the states.....
I looked at the specs, just seems to have humbuckers...
Anyone have a guitar recommend that would fit the bill and be the same spec wise???
Here are the specs.

The Pacifica is a little Gem. Well in the beginners budget but really does have a nice tone. I use a Jap Strat mainly, but really enjoy playing a friends pacifica whenever I see it.
I'd highly recommend it.
His is one double humbucker and two single coils.

Well for the tone they (Sans) got out of it, I am amazed. What pray tell would be a good guitar in the same tone structure located here...

Without spending too much $$, as this would be used just for power chords, but wouldn't mind spending some extra for a good tone. Have a Les Paul Studio available....but it's not as easy to play as my strat with Hot Rails...but the maple neck makes it a little bright.....so thanks for the advice.

interesting, i had one of those guitars.
though mine was a 120D, exact same spec but natural finish, maybe that's the difference.
cracking guitar; solid slab of wood, decent hardware, great tone.
bit small though, always felt kinda little (to my 6'1" frame...)

For the sound I think you're talking about I love SG's... although I have a vintage Ibanez Double neck SG from 1976 that is just awesome. The epiphone SG's are pretty slick but if you can get Gibson - do! They Rock!!

Of course, the SG, Angus......oh yeah. Didn't even think about that, but does this Pacifica have a single coil too? I thought it did, if so very interesting. I have a vintage strat that I replaced the bottom (bridge) with a HOT RAIL and it sounds pretty good, still not a full humbucker though.
What's the deal on the EMG pickups, active or not and why are they discussed often in guitar forums? I have a active pickup on my bass that I use for laying down parts and it does sound good, but have never used a active pickup (battery opertated) in or rather on a guitar.
cheers and peace!

what do you want to know? What's the deal on the EMG pickups, active or not and why are they discussed often in guitar forums?
1 higher output
2 low z
3 lower noise
4 because it's active the volume doesn't work the same, instead of starting with a strong signal and using resistance to cut it back you start with a strong signal and you are pushing more out (kinda like the difference between gravity pressure and pumped water).

that's a good site fo emg and other parts...btw the circuts are great, for like 30 bux you can get a pre-amp with a trim pot to make varible up to a 20 db gain...the PA2...it's a good way to start with active electronics...
