I want to convert my Akai S1000 sounds (on diskette!) to Kontakt. The problem is my computer, with Windows XP, can't read my diskdrive (A).
Who can give me some advise?

Thanks for your reactions.
So, the conclusion is that it's not possible to transfer the Akai programs to my computer hard disk.
I wonder, is there a possibility with my DAT recorder?

As far as i know you will only be able to convert from akai format if the sounds are on cd.
The computer with windows will not read the akai cd either but the conversion utility within kontakt will.(windows cannot decipher the proprietary akai format but the clever little demons within kontakt,s browser function can)
As an experiment fire up kontakt choose the browse for akai option in the import sectio of thefile browser and point it at the diskette drive in order to confirm whether or not conversion from diskette is possible.
If the sounds were on cd ,kontakt would now see the akai partitions and give you the option to convert to kontakt format.

The Akai data is in a proprietary format. You will need to use a program like CDXtract to convert the data for you.

Funkynuts is correct, Lovesign is wrong. (Forgive me, I always wanted to write that... =))

Akai floppy disks - which I assume is what you speak of since you mention your A: drive - are a way different from what Kontakt, Translator or CDXtract can read.

If you really want those sounds, the best method is to find an Akai sampler, read the sounds into it, and save it to a hard drive. Then burn that hard drive image to CD, then Kontakt will read it fine.

An alternate method is to use AkaiDisk (find it at www.chickensys.com, under Downlaods/Other) and use it to extract the samples into .wav files, then you can import those into Kontkat. You can't get at the programs this way, though.

Using a USB floppy will never work, they are not designed to read the proprietary floppies and will fail.

Why ?

Do you mean "why I wanted to write that" or why you were wrong?

The only program that can convert Akai floppy disks to anything is AkaiDisk, which only works in DOS/Win95/98/ME, and that only does the samples, not the programs.

Why ?
Because i am am considerably sexier than you

( plus Garth is the man who wrote chicken sys translater and the import other format functions used by several samplers.)

I was just wondering why Garth always wanted to write that ? Peculiar

Anyway, yes, my mistake, Akai floppies are only convertable via either AkaiDisk or a bonafide Akai Sampler. CD's (of which I thought you were referring to) are easily handled by software like CDXtract.

As for the sexiness thing, well, I'll let you win on that count, seeing as I am incredibly modest ;)

All day I'm writing "Bob did this and Sally did that..." Finally - some unique names...

I still think my answer was nearer the truth.

What about Kontakt 2's "Universal Import" function? Have you tried it?

The only way to get the data off the floppies is to do one of the following...

1. Find an Akai sampler with a floppy drive. Load them up and then save the resulting conversions.

2. Use AkaiDisk, running on a PC that is using either DOS or Windows 95/98/Me, although this apparantly will not convert the program data.

I have successfully used AkaiDisk in the past, but that was to convert downloaded S1000 data on to Akai floppies for use on my S6000.
