Sorted Drum Sampling CDs or software to sort by myself

Hi,

when i start something new,
the first thing for me is to chose the right drumsounds.

Well I got lots of samples, but they are not well sorted.
Some have a proprietary format, so I can´t really move them around.

I really could need an advice for a well sorted collection
of drumsounds, I mean 100 SDs, 100 BDs and so on.
Maybe pooled inside programs or folders.
I have cdextract, so I could convert almost any format.

I´m into electronic styles, but usually build
my own sounds layering and processing them,
so they don´t need necessarily to be effected or pre-
produced that much.
I´m neither searching for "analog drummachine sounds",
there is plenty of them on my harddrive space.

I could also need a software for organizing samples.
Maybe listen to them and move them into folders or similar.
OS is WinXP.

Thanks for any hint

Is the question too trivial or is there no answer to it? :?

Originally, quickly glancing, I couldn't make out what are you asking for exactly ;) Now that I bothered to read...

Can't really recommend samplecds without knowing what exactly you want - is that acoustic drums, and if, in which style, is it percussion in general, if so, what kind of stuff, and so on...

Since you said what you don't want, I can't casually mention my first suggestion, Dance Megadrums I and II ;) (drum machines from analog to modern samplebased ones, both processed and unprocessed)

Ok, off the top of my head... Doru Malaia's Superdrums 8000 has been praised a lot here, perhaps that's worth checking out for starters :)

As for software... I don't use a tool that has cataloguing/database style stuff, so I can't suggest those. I use LoopHorse whose developer hangs around here. From those 'wave browsers' I've tried (most of them, me thinks) it's the most useful one for going through samples.

The key to this is how you organise samples on your hard drive - my method is a mess but as it's of value to my creative process, I'm unlikely to change it... everything is stored in cd-sized main folders (My samples 1, My samples 2 etc. - cd-sized for easy backup), and under that everything is in folders named after the source (usually the title of the cd they are from, or website, or instrument), I know my way through them roughly since I've been surfing through them so long, but going through say kick drums from one folder normally leads me into trying out different sounds than the first idea that pops into my head :) Not to mention that as I'm not under a deadline, categories such as 909 kicks - short and soft, 909 kicks - long, distorted, 909 kicks - medium length, punchy and so on are of no value to me...

Pretty long post without giving you much, I'm afraid :P But try out LoopHorse for auditioning + possible organisation, it's a start.

Oh, now that I remember, something called Sample Catalog has been mentioned several times, it's a freebie.

Most likely it's this one.

you must be kidding, lots of stuff looking very promising.
Saying this I have the strong feeling I didn´t get the irony
of your post once again. :)

Especially Superdrums 8000 seems to be exactly
the kind of sampling CD I´m searching for.

I like dance megadrums, too, that´s why I mentioned
I don´t really need that much analog drum sounds.

Thanks for the effort, I´ll check anything you mentioned. :phones:

NP :)

The irony was directed at myself, as I had nothing but LoopHorse to suggest in the first version of the post... previewing what I had written, a couple more things popped to my mind and added those, without paying attention to what I had already said :D

Glad to be of any help anyways.
