hi I look for some help regarding hardware synths and FL.
I bought my first and only hardware synth some months ago and I'm trying to implement it into my method of composition.
I'm having a problem, maybe you can help me, please.
I'll explain what I do and then the problem I encounter.
I have it connected via midi, no problem, with MIDI OUT etc. I write a melody on the piano roll and paint the loop in the playlist. I press play and everything sounds ok.
Now, I want to change the sound and I modify the filter, for example. But everytime I press play the sound returns to the original, my modifications are ignored.
I thought this was normal so i tried automating it. So I automated that filter movement in a different playlist track and that movement gest automated. BUT everytime the melody starts to play again the sound returns to the original, my changes are ignored again.
BUT when the melody ends and starts again (it loops) then the automation takes place and the sound is the one I modified. But only when the melody has played once and is looped, never when played at first.
what am I doing wrong? I cannot make the sound I make sound unless I store it in the synth as a new preset??
please all help is highly welcome. thanks

you should be able to defeat that in your synth, however doing so will also cancel out any automation you use. In my Roland they call it something like local control, my Alesis QSR allows this as well, but I forget what they call it...what synth are you using..?origami wrote:hi I look for some help regarding hardware synths and FL.

Likely there will be a midi preference or settings page/button (sorry I'm no familar with that synth) for you to adjust it. HOpefully someone here has one and get you an answer, otherwise is there a pdf manual?origami wrote:thanks Hink

I do own the manual, it's just that I thought that issue was something that depended 100% on the sequencer, nothing to do with the synth actually. I'll look it up in the manual then. thanks Hink.
if anyone can give me a clue or something please help.
again, thanks Hink.

in FL you have to put every automation and midi cc data in pattern 9 by default, wich is a legacy "feature" from earlier versions. If you put a meldoy in, say, pattern 7 and paint that in the playlist, with automation & hw synth settings, it keeps resetting at every new start of the pattern.
Pattern 9 is used for continuous midi data automation so it spans over the whole song length.
However, i suggest you use automation clips instead of events, they are way handier to use and are completely independent of wich pattern you use.

Hi Timbre, thanks, I didn't know that about pattern 9.
Btw, about automation clips: I actually use FL4 and not 5 because of some problems I had with FL5, so I guess I can't use automation clips. I'll have to wait for FL6 to solve my problems.
thx

you dont have to use pattern 9...I believe that's more of a throw back to an earlier version. I deleted pattern 9 then cloned pattern 8 so it's like every other pattern in the playlist. The automation doesn't get effected at all, it all still works fine...Timbre wrote:in FL you have to put every automation and midi cc data in pattern 9 by default, wich is a legacy "feature" from earlier versions. that's what I thought. I've always automated in every pattern and all worked fine. I don't know, it seems I'll have to store the modified sound into the Virus then? it's quite uncomfortable but well, if there's no other choice...
