What the heck is this format? I've never heard of it before, and I have tried some google searches. I believe that I need an IRCAM player for what I am doing but seeing as I don't know what IRCAM is I not sure what to look for

Never heard of a format like that either. The only IRCAM I know of is the music french institute that is geared toward music technology and contemporary music among other things.
http://www.ircam.fr/ It's in french and they do make music software over either also.

Thanks for the responses.
I'm trying to do some stuff in CSound right now where a complier creates some audio file. This is what I have been told by someone on the CSound site.

This is clearly a deferred-time Csound session. A file called 'test' has been created in your hard disk in IRCAM format

Did some googling and there does indeed seem to be a soundfile format called IRCAM (extension .sf). I found this site which might be of some help, there are some CSound scripts for converting IRCAM files (among others):
www.csounds.com/istvan/html/csscripts.html
Awave from www.fmjsoft.com can also read and write files in IRCAM format.
