HRTF files?

So I was playing with Christian Budde's HRTF effect plugin today and noticed that when you double-click on the display, it displays an open-file dialog looking for ".hrtf" files.

I can only guess that this means it's possible to load up other head-related transfer functions into the plugin other than the native design. I did a quick google search for these files and didn't find anything.

Is this what that dialog is for? Do these files actually exist somewhere? Are they freeware too?

If you know the answers, or can point me to more HRTF resources, please let me know.
